NZ: Mohaka Adventure Ride 2011

I had a great weekend on Britton Adventure's Mohaka ride 10-11th Dec 2011.

Heading out of Auckland midday Friday with a bike loaded for an adventure ride really is the best feeling!

I rode down the berms at Rangitaiki, spotting some fellow riders heading to Mohaka

The Mountain Valley Adventure Lodge at Te Pohue is a fantastic spot, I must go back for a weekend of rafting, trekking and paintball.

View down to the Mohaka River and adventure lodge that was base camp for the weekend.

Setting up home near the bar, then a yummy dinner, a few bevvies and a chinwag with riders from all over.

I walked off breakfast the next morning along a bridle path

a massive slip on the far side

The Mohaka River

Then back to gear up, Mike Britton briefs 100 riders

if you look closely there was a famous face in the crowd

Chris Birch getting some kiwi adventure in before his Dakar adventure...good on ya mate

they say the family that play together....

Ready to go...right where's the latte's Mike?

a spill on wet grass - one of many us that tumbled. Rider in charge included!

view up the back of somewhere

view up the back of somewhere else

view of the ground

we converged with the trail riders throughout the day

this paddock sprouted a crop of oranges

they needed constant watering

lunch both days was put on by the locals as a fundraiser, excellent spreads!

kindergarten kids - my they breed em big in the country

stopping up the top of the Mohaka for a break (we actually did some riding - check the crash reel to follow)

a peek of the river

mighty slip across the river

Chris Birch rocked his big alphabet bike all over the trail riders route

this one had bits fall out

the cure-all applied

we had a security escort at one point

A must do ride, well done Mike, Angela and the crew....I had a blast

Video clips to follow soon...

Wet grass, & greasy clay tracks - looked like a hoot! You rocked with your attitude to the falls - they would just tend to piss me off...You need to get some barkbusters though, or you'll start to lose levers

Don't know that the guy on the F800GS was a happy camper. Did he do any permanent damage to himself?

We met a guy riding thru Taihape on his way to the Mohaka ride on a new, pristine F800GS (we were off to the WAR ride & stopped for lunch at the Soul Food Cafe). We (the group I was with) all agreed that it was unlikely to look like that at the end of his weekend.
