Alps & Pyrenees Routes Help

Hi all,

I've been riding around Europe, the Alps and Pyrenees for the last 10 years and thought to share some of my experience for what its worth so I've set up a Bike Blog with trip reports, maps, places to stay, routes and day trips as downloadable GPX files etc.

This year i did a 6500km ride through some of the really high roads in the Alps/Pyrenees and video'd it with a couple of bike/helmet cams which I'm currently putting up on my YouTube Channel so you can see for yourself some of the best roads if you've not been that way already. I've only uploaded 2 so far from this years trip, but I've over 100GB of video to edit so it will take me a few weeks to get it all uploaded..

Hope you find some usefull stuff in all that to help plan your next trip in Europe..

Hi Den,

I am from Canada and spent a six weeks riding in Europe, with about 16 days just in the Pyrennes, with eight great days based out of Jaca and Sort. Found your webpage great and am looking forward to gleaning a bit more info for some other areas to ride an another trip. Great blog!

I will visit the French Alps on 13th of May for 3 days and after i will visit Pyrenees for 4 days.
Do you think that i can ride?
Believed to have melted the snow?

What can you tell me about the purenees? I'm going there as a first timer, but I'm not sure where to go, or if there are any hidden gems to see.

Some passes will be closed, but there are websites, where you can see the status of each pass.

This really depends on what sort of snow fall they've had over the winter. To be safe you can check on the internet as to which ones are open but really don't expect the really high ones to be. e.g. Col de la Bonnette (highest tarmac pass in the Alps) is only finally ploughed in June most years.
Also, bear in mind that I've experienced snow fall in August making riding treacherous. So conditions can change with the, er, weather.
