2012 Pine Barrens 300

SOLD OUT!

Hey: So it looks like the next PB300 will take place April 14th and 15th 2012. We just got finished with the final reports and paying the bills from the Fall PB300 and had to go right back into the permit process. The maps need to be submitted and permits applied for, 3 or 4 months before hand, and that's now.

Cross Country Cycles will sanction the event and Ocean County Competition Riders will support it.

We've been checking out new sections and revisiting old one's, and may also include the Big Bike Enduro Section from the last Scrub Pine Enduro.

Here's a few pic's of the new sections from the prerides.

In this section we think a Tornado touched down, there's trees with the tops twisted off or broken laying everywhere, a pretty cool section.

Here's Mobill on the route.

And another new spot, a burnt out Scrub Pine Forest, it looks like a scene from an old sci-fi movie.

Image this on a cold, foggy, moon light night.

One of the goals of the Pine Barrens 300 is to show riders the beauty and diversity of the New Jersey Pine Lands. The conditions of the route change depending on the time of year, rainfall and the weather. If you've ridden the event more than once or twice, you see that even the sections we reuse are different from year to year and season to season. I think the 2012 event will continue the tradition.

I haven't had a chance to thank everyone who helped or rode the Fall event yet, I'll get to that soon.

That's all for now.

Jack

bike decision

the PB300 is laid out with big bikes in mind. of course this doesn't mean little bikes are turned away. this is a self-guided gps tour of the pine barrens and surrounding region designed with larger bikes in mind. if you have a choice and don't often take your big bike "off-road" i recommend you ride the big bike for practice as this ride will test your endurance but usually doesn't throw anything technical at you (too many times). the most you are likely to encounter is some water, short stretches of deep sand, and the occasional fire cut. all of these are very doable.

no 300 mile loop will ever be 'easy' but on a little bike this ride isn't much of a challenge (in my uninformed opinion) unless you are riding balls out rally style (which means you are breaking laws) and then the challenge becomes 'how fast can i go'. there are plenty of enduros held in the region and the hammer run to challenge you on your little bike.

of course, all this is just my opinion and i've only done the PB twice. both times on the f8. your mileage may vary.
