Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved. Hell, some of the places Ive been there werent even roads!

Good ol' Friend

Heres a picture of my bike in front of my former office building. The year was 1999 and I was working on the 79th floor of World Trade One for an investment bank after college. I lived in Astoria, Queens at the time and would park the bike next to my apartment and ride to work. Those were some good riding memories. I resigned in September of 2000 and moved back home to South Jersey to work in the family business.
The GS was purchased with a little help from my parents as a college graduation gift in 1997. I bought it with 6,500 miles. It now has 78,000. I would have put more miles on her but six other bikes have come and or gone since then so my personal miles have been diluted. I rode the bike to Alaska in August of 2001 but had a transmission failure on the way back in Sturgis, SD of all places during the rally. The bike has been a New Jersey pinelands native since then with the occasional rally or two.
Im in the process of installing a new charging system, rebuilt transmission and driveshaft, new swing and pivot arm bearings, new ignition bean can, rebuilt Ohlins shock and a whole bunch of other new and improved modifications. Planning on going back to Alaska and visiting Prudhoe Bay. This would be my third attempt at Prudhoe Bay. The first time was with the GS, but I chickened out because my drive train was coming apart. The second time was on a different bike but I ran out of time. The third attempt may happen this June. I really would like to check Prudhoe Bay off my list of must dos once and for all. In addition, it would be great to spend some extended time with my GS again. A lot of changes have happened while I've owned this bike. Some good, others not. Through it all the GS has been by my side. The bike has been great. I wish they still made more of them. Thanks for reading.
