Cannel trail is a hop skip & jump from the campground (maybe 1 mile), basic trail with BEAUTIFUL scenery. Not sure how far we can ride on it, just depends on the snow towards the top.

last year we got all the way up to the forest roads and those only had snow drifts. so far, this year is dryer and warmer than last year.

Keyesville is definitly a dirt bike area. We rode there a few years ago and it had alot of good trails. I was on my XR which was fun but would have much rather been on my KTM 2 smoker. Not sure how you bringing a real dirt bike is going to get into anyones way. Maybe just some bike envy.

The question was about staying off site and joining the rides. You know how it is at launch time... folks hung over and the night before plans for leaving at 8:00 become 8:45. Then the first stop conversation of "where we going to have breakfast" changes where you'e going by the number of folks in the group.

That makes it very hard for a guy offsite to say "I'll meet you at the trailhead at 9:00". It also forces the group to BE at that trailhead. I've seen those changes happen over breakfast "lets do that loop after lunch instead".

And then there is the having to ride back to the support truck solo (most likely) because the group rides out to pavement somewhere other than the starting place.

The point was that it makes it much easier to tag along if you're along in the first place. And there are some issues with bringing a green sticker only bike. As long as the rider is willing to deal with the green sticker issues and they are on site, it's doable.
