ALTRIDER's HOH Rain forest ride

I was invited to tag along with my friends up in Washington on their annual HOH Rainforest Ride http://www.altrider.com/altrider-s-h...-2013/pid/1357 so at the last minute, I drove up there in my crappy little car that still gets 35 mpg and hopped on their green KTM 950.

We met up at ALTRIDER HQ early in order to make the ferry over to Bremerton and the Olympic Pennisula.

A quick stop by the famous landmark downtown. NO PARKING ha!

Got to the dock with a couple minutes to spare on a spectacular day. Thatís Kevin Miklossy from onewheeldrive.net on the right and Jeremy LeBreton from ALTRIDER on his brand-spankiní-new R1200GS on the near left.

Havenít been on the ferry for quite some time and this was first for me on a motorcycle (the only way to go - first on, first off)

Those boats actually haul ass!

Got to ride and hang out with Neale Bayly (taking photo of the Bremerton Naval yard). There were 4 huge aircraft carriers being de-commissioned (I think) and one of them was the USS Kitty Hawk - theyíre HUGE!

My bike was riding kind of strange - thought it was just bald tires with wrong pressure - would turn left differently than it turned right. Finally figured out the forks were tweaked from a little crash prior. An excellent crab enchilada at 2 Margaritas.

Jeremyís R1200 will never be this clean again but itís well defended.

Big technical discussion.

Last gas stop before the campsite.

Got to the dirt and with the recent rain it was delicious.

Lots of greenery.

Erik from ALTrider - skills improving with every ride

We got to camp at Satsup where everyone was trickling in, had a nice dinner and got up to rain the next morning. This was going to be a fun day where we took morning spin up in the hills and back to camp for lunch. A quick ridersí meeting in the morning with a variety of routes to take. (Iím poaching Neale and Kevinís shots)

Havenít had a chance to ride with my buddy John Isenberg from motoquesttours.com since a big trip on thumpers from Bend down into Nevada a few years ago, 2009 to be exact http://advrider.com/forums/showthrea...ighlight=wachs

Heís big and fast on his 990

Neale and Kevin splashing through the ferns and alder.

Jeremy

Rain forest, SURPRISE - itís raining!

Itís a warm rain though, zero dust and actually excellent traction even with the bald tires on the 950.

No problems, everyone is stoked to be out in the forest on bikes.

As we rolled along, the mist slowed and the sun started to come out.

Another impressive bridge but by no means the tallest weíll see on this tour.

We dropped down into Quinalt for a quick re-grouping - Brainna on her cool Husky (sorry I couldnít get that stuffed into my car for the trip down to Billlís)

Rode up from town into the Olympics for another short break.

Oops forgot a couple images in that sequence. We ran into this pack of fellas on the way up to a ridge. All hell broke loose!

Then we stopped by another cool waterfall

Quinault river(?) with John Isenberg

Had to wait for some guys to show up - just peacefully passing the time.

Huge log

Gathered everyone up for the last part of the day back to camp.

Green and orange

This Husky bike looks super sick I looked its stats on their web site. How does Brianna like it?

That was the highlight of the ride for sure Dave!! That was too funny listening to the Dirty Irishman after you made the pass on him.

(that's me on the black 950)

She loves it - you would too. Maybe your next bike?

Hey Eldon - that was by far my favorite section too! Thought that the Dirty Irishman was genuinely pissed about the fire hose of gravel off the back of the green 950 but he had as much fun as we did rallying up that road. Didn't break his headlight or anything!

Hey - thought this group looked familiar, didn't realize it was you ! http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=898756

We all made it safely back to camp for the final night. Met this enthusiast at the BMWOA gathering in Salem earlier in the summer (sorry I donít remember her name)

Everyone had a great time up there. Jeremy presided over the closing Ďceremonyí after Nealeís presentation.

Most folks took off their separate ways for home on sunday but Erik had plans to show us more on our way back into the city. Being a guest on one of these rides is great - no navigating, just follow along and dig on the scenery. A spectacular rest stop above a huge drainage and below the morning clouds.

We had a nice tight group of 6 or 7 bikes.

Next stop was this mega rail bridge across a canyon.

Thatís 375í straight down

We wandered around up the forest not wanting the ride to end but eventually made it back to Bremerton for the ferry ride back to the city.

Pretty cool to go from this to riding around with all the other humans on city streets. Seattle and the surrounding area is truly amazing and the best way to see it is on a bike!

Thanks for letting me poach your shots Neale and Kevin and special thanks for the loaner 950 Jeremy. Looking forward to the next one!

Nice one Dave! Love all the pics and man, assuming you have some sun, the moisture sure brings the colors out. Love the Kawasaki 990 as well ;)

I spent a lot of time on those Washington State Ferries growing up in Friday Harbor, and yeah, running my XL250 to the front of the line *rocked*.
