2012 Hampton Roads NYD Ride

Hampton Roads 2012 New Year's Day Ride

The Worst Kind has taken the lead for this year's ride:

"Talked to the fine folks at Jeb's earlier - since the 1st is a Sunday, Jeb's will be closed.

The Warrior Grill in Virginia Beach would be a good alternative - they do a very good job accomodating a bit larger group. They open at noon, and are ready to seat us together.

Unless there is a vociferous protest, here is the plan:

0830: Meet at the Wawa on Holland Road. Everybody ought to fill up.

0900: Kick-stands up. Head out to Pungo, run some backroads out there. Take backroads over to Hickory. Pose for a group picture at the "First Tag" at the bridge on Bunch of Walnuts Road. Head back over to the Beach, go down Atlantic Ave, take another group picture at the Neptune (with the bikes), go down Shore Drive, hang a left on Great Neck Road and head down to the Warrior Grill.

1200: Warrior Grill opens, and we jump in and eat lunch.

1300: It's all over. Go home."

Looks like we are going to have incredible weather this year, 60+ degrees and partly cloudy.
Got my back in town again, looking forward to meeting up with everyone.

I like your proposal TWK.

Wanna use this thread or just keep it in the Hampton Roads Chatter?

I'll post it here for consumption and discussion, that way it is easy to find.

Let's figure something out here and enjoy the New Year on 2 Wheels. This will be year 4 for the ride and every year has had a good story to go with it. Last year we did a little time on snowy roads behind a plow. Looks like the weather will be much more favorable this year.

The basic plan is to meet up, ride, eat somewhere, ride back.

I like to meet up and be on the road fairly early, Finding a place open on NYD may be a little more difficult this year as it is also a Sunday morning.

We've gone to the Jolly Rodger in Nags Head via the Ferry.
We've gone to Richmond via the Ferry.
We've gone to Jebs from SandBridge.

Haven't been to Glouchester yet, and we could also aim for Williamsburg this time. I recently ate at Ma Steve's Pancake house. Something tells me they'll be open.

I'd like to meet up early and enjoy a morning ride to lunch, then be able to spend some time with the family in the afternoon.

There are other rides going on that we may just want to be part of. No planning required but the start time is a bit late for me.

The eBiker News annual ride leaves from Frank's Truck stop at 10am. not sure where they are headed this year.

Ideas, recommendations for lunch/Brunch?

Let's Ride!

It's all good for me, ride and eat, I'm in

There's also some Richmond ADV riders heading to the Wasabi in Williamsburg as their lunch stop New Years Day ride. Huge buffet and lots of seating.

I updated the first post to avoid confussion.

TWK - Do we need a Roll-Call to get a head count for the Warrior Grill?

Crappy weather today - better now than this weekend.

If any of the dirt riders are interested in hitting some trails afterwards Id be very interested. The Dam Neck trails are only about 5 miles from Warrior Grill.

Oh, and not sure if the First Landing State park idea was knocked out or not but it would be a great edition to the ride especially since we'll be riding right passed it. (64th street & Atlantic)
