I am considering a Rally Raid'd 690 for my Spring ride in Russia, Russian off-road people 2011: Dirt Again, and did a preliminary bike-build estimate in my Help me pick a thumper for my Russian ride!, thread.

And while its great to hear that there may be lower prices for the parts listed below, when I did my wish list a few weeks ago, if I were to outfit the 690, I'd buy at least the parts listed below from these guys:
KTM TWINS Rally Raid Parts

Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro Adventure Fairing Kit and Headlight $1,349.00
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro Adventure Kit Graphics $265.00
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro Low Fender Graphics Kit $78.95
Rally Raid KTM 690 Adventure Kit Front Turn Signals $86.00
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro/SMC Auxiliary 9.5 Liter Tank Kit $815.00
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro Rear 5 Litrer Auxiliary Tank $475.00
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro/SMC Soft Luggage Carrier System $325.00
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro Rally Skid Plate Center Stand $345.00
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro Engine Guard and 2 Liter Tank $435.95
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro/SMC Brake Lever $192.95
Rally Raid KTM 690 Manual Cam Chain Tensioner $95.00
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro/SMC Foam Filter Conversion Kit $116.95
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro/690 SMC Counter Shaft Protection $129.00
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro/SMC Subframe Tank Mount Bolts $65.95
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro/SMC Lower Tank Mount Kit $54.95
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro/SMC Stainless Steel Shock Collar $76.95
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro Speedo/ICO Cable Protector $58.00
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro/690 SMC Radiator Guard $205.95
Rally Raid KTM 690 Enduro Low Fender Kit $344.00
etc...
The grand total is already at $5514.60 USD

Add that to the price of the bike, say $10,500 USD, and while with more RR parts, the total of $16,000+ reflects a major buy-in, similar to the Oryx price....

Worse yet, for that price there are still other needed farkles, such as steering damper, hand guards, pivot pegs, etc.

You are not going to Dakar. Buy used one, add Luggage Carrier and go.

That would be far too logical for me.

I ride an SE with a rallye fairing kit and all I have to say, is that it has given the bike the legs it didn't have.
It is pointless (for me) to have a DS bike that can do 80+ mph all day long without the wind protection to actually do it.
If on the other hand such speeds are not needed, then these bikes are not needed either and one can be better off with a lighter and more dedicated enduro machine.

By the way, this 690 Oryx looks plain amazing!

PS I had the 'enduro screen' mentioned above before going full fairing and all I have to say is that it is not totally useless. It works very well if there is no headwind, with sustained speeds up to 90mph being realistic. With headwind though, it adds very little to stock configuration. On the average, it adds 10-20mph to the comfort zone, depending on the direction of wind.

The full fairing is a different story. It also adds stability at high speed 'slabing', since the steering input becomes independent from wind pressure. Money very very well spent.

Great pic of the bike, and the still-to-be-identified black, tubular, engine guard here:

I have that crashbars on my 690R. I bought it from a vendor from the wilddog site. It came in bubble wrap without any form of identification. This makes me think that it was most probably made in South Africa. It certainly works as advertised.

Thanks for the info. I posted over on that site as well, asking for someone to identify the vendor.
Hopefully, between these two sites, someone can identity its source.

Actually thats pretty damn cheap. A new 690 costs about $10,000 USD and the full rally raid kit is around $3000 - $5000.

Not sure what's so special about that engine guard / bashplate? It doesn't extend rearwards to protect the rear master cylinder unlike the GiT part from Adventure Spec in the UK. I copied the GiT design and made an extension which a friend welded to my KTM Hardparts bashplate:

If I was to buy a replacement, this is what I'd buy:

Note the welded on lip that offers additional protection to the leading edge of the clutch cover.
