This is my video from the last ADV Rider local meet up out here in SoCal. We started out with a pretty good sized group and eventually widdled down to four big(ger) bikes on the final stretch. We rode through Randsburg, Johannesburg, the Husky monument, Cuddyback dry lake, all the way to Barstow and back to Orange County that night. This was the deepest, longest stretch of sand I had taken the 800gs through to date, so you'll see I had to make some, ha-hem, adjustments

Any damage to the bike on those faster crashes?
I managed to break of the little exhaust protector thingy behind the shifter peg and fried my boot on the way home. Now the bike smells funny everytime I take it out.

drops
Buster,
Your a tougher man than I am! If I had fallen that much I would have wanted to toss in the towels! Is the GS800 that much of a bitch to ride in the sand? I used to ride an 1150GSA , it sucked in the sand but I never dropped it! I ride my XR650R exclusively on d/s stuff, it really does not like the sand either when loaded with gear and full,, unloaded it just flies! Nice video I enjoyed it! As you are well aware most of your drops and spills were at a reduced speed, hard to manage that sand without momentum!!!

Not a single thing.
No, I'm just making the adjustment from riding 250lb dirt bikes my whole life. There was a modded F650GS, another F800GS and a KTM990ADV in front of me that did just fine.

I(otherf800) barley got through that section with 3 drops and the bike was very hard to control.

That was a great video. Thanks for sharing. You ride a nice bike. Deep sand and silt is tough. I kept thinking, is this guy going to keep going. No way I could have picked that bike up that many times.
