A Day In Bokor National Park, Cambodia

I recently spent three weeks travelling around Cambodia, unfortunately not by motorcycle. But while I was in Kampot, I rented an XR250 for a few days so I could explore the area a little. I'd seen some information about Bokor on this sight and GT Rider, but it was all old, from before they put in the new road. The main attraction seemed to be the rough road up to the park, which is now a very nicely paved road. A couple people told me there was no reason to take a "big bike" up to Bokor as all you can do is ride up the paved road and back. Wrong!!! I managed to find some very old roads up on the plateau that I'm pretty sure nobody has driven on for a long time. I road over 50km of Moab-style slabby rock roads, surrounded by jungle and crazy rock formations. Definitely an awesome adventure and well worth the $15/day to rent a sweet 2010 XR250 with good tires and various aftermarket upgrades. Here's a few pics:

Yeah, especially since two weeks later I paid $25/day to rent an ancient xlr 250 in Laos.

They opened the road... or did you sneak in?

I was there in February 2011, but I didn't take a bike because the road was still under construction and closed to private vehicles. Spent the night up there though and it was sweet. I didn't know you could rent anything bigger than a 125cc in Kampot (or even that)! By then I had a Honda Bonus though I bought in southern Laos :) There's a lot of sweet riding out of there if you have an off-road capable bike (which mine was not, really).... I ended up getting stuck in Kampot for like two weeks It was fun

Did you take any more photos?

I'd love to see more shots from that place, I can see from the background some cool scenery.

The road is officially open now, they were just finishing up the paving when I was there. Really nice road actually. Would be sweet on a sportbike or supermoto!

I did take some more pictures, I'll try to post some more next time I'm in front of a real computer.

Well, it took a long time for me to actually get the pictures up on the web. Sorry. Here's a few more photos of the area. No action shots since I was riding solo.
