Cj designs triumph 800 tail rack

We have a new rack available for the exciting new Triumph Adventure bikes.

Testing went very well over the summer and these are in stock ready to ship.


Here are some pics and install info from a Happy customer.

Just received my rack & box, bolted on in 20 minutes (including drilling holes in Pelican box.)
Good & strong, now I have somewhere dry & safe for my cameras & laptop.

Thanks for the extra stainless nuts & bolts to attach the box to the rack.

Racks are no longer slotted, We have decided that it was a bit stronger to go with holes only. You should put locktite on the bolts anyways when you adjust position, so the slots were found to not be a huge help.

The above photos are of my bike & I thought I should mention that with the rack in the centre adjustment I am still able to remove my seat, even with the pelican case in place.

These racks are very well made & with the supplied spacers any item strapped to it will clear the hand rails.

Phrog, which Pelican case did you use and how did you mount it? I am very interested in a similar setup and would like to know if you are still happy with your setup.

Great rack - got mine installed the other day. A couple of notes...

Pay attention when mounting, as there appears to be some minor variance between bikes that keeps the rack from sitting perfectly flush on the spacers. Craig's including several stainless washers to shim it up/down, so use as necessary.

Also, if you are thinking of using a Givi with this rack - you'll need an adaptor plate, and it wil be larger for/aft than the rack. You can't simply install the Givi monokey hardware directly to the rack, as there's not sufficient spacing front to rear.

Not a big deal to me, as I've decided to go with a Pelican solution. I also prefer the slightly smaller size of this rack to the larger ones I've seen that would directly accomodate a Givi. The size of this rack looks really, really nice on the Tiger - anything larger makes the ass end of the 800XC look bulky, with no huge advantage in usage.

Yet another Pelican install on this rack...here are a few more details, and some options I came up with.

First - I went with a Pelican 1520. Wanted a little more room than the 1500, and as it turns out - it's a great size for this rack.

While the rack is drilled in all four corners presumably for through bolts, they aren't in ideal locations for the 1520 as the box is not flat in the corresponding locations - the ridges look like they'd interfere. Fortunately, there's a better alternative...I'm using the tie-down slots on the sides.



Using the slots instead of the holes allows the Pelican to have quite a bit of adjustability for and aft on the rack. Combined with the rack's for/aft adjustability, you can tweak things exactly how you want them depending on what else you're carrying.

And, as it turns out - those slots line up near perfectly with the "feet" on the bottom of the 1520.



While I could have simply through bolted the box, I wanted to be able to remove the box quickly and without tools, leaving nothing on the rack. I searched around a bit, and found these - a little over $4 a piece, and if you order 5 you get a spare and get over the $20 threshold that gets you free shipping. They're drilled/tapped all the way through, so combined with an M8 button head stainless bolt and some fender/lock washers, they make for a quick/secure connection.

And lastly - this rack/box setup works great if you're a fan of the awesome Rok Straps. Attach two sets to the for/aft slots on the rack, and the feet of the Pelican will raise the box just enough to clear them. You can then strap additional goods quite securely on top of the Pelican, and given how quick/easy Rok straps go on/off, it doesn't impede your access to the top box by very much. Here's a pic showing my H2W tent bag up top.

Hey CJ.. Is there any disadvantage to going with the machine finish? I was thinking the machine finish wouldn't show scratches as much. I'm looking at the 990 Adventure rack BTW...

The Machine finish is not anodized, so just like any bare Aluminum, it can cause gear to turn a grey color as oxidation rubs off. Same thing happens inside Aluminum Panniers that are not powder coated.

Anodized rack won't smudge and offer a tough surface finish.

If sand and mud gets under the bags and they are not strapped down tight, this can make a lapping compound that can grind down the anodizing, but the same would happen to any surface.

It takes much force with a sharp screw driver to gauges/ scrape off the anodized surface. You would have to be trying to do damage.

Now I see this, when my CJ Designs rack has just been delivered and I am googling how to attach my givi monokey fittings. Anyone have a link to an adapter plate? I found an example, but it looked like I might be able to fit those directly to the rear of my tiger 800 xc.

Rack appears very good quality, hope I can get it working for me.

The "NEW" version has more room front to back. The GIVI units should work now, but if you have a template of your needed bolt pattern I can verify this or send you a special rack.
