It happen that these quads are now being reconsidered as leagl, even rules are very clear (I am at the phoen, no rules here, but have it at notebook, will post later).
Even last year winner, Alejandro Patronelli quit to use last year 900cc quad, at took 2010 700cc Raptor.
So I do nor believe it is someone being scared of someone else, just claim to use same rules for all°!!!!
According to the rules: 2 wheel drive max. 750cc, 4 wheel drive max. 900cc

some of the guys were wondering about the air intake ducting on the KTM 450R, this video explains clearly the purpose of this carbon-fibre duct. Its for allowing cool ambient air to the carbs/fuel lines to keep the fuel cool.

fack it i'm unable to embed the video, click on the link.

You are right, and I forgot to add that Machacez team quads are Raptors 2wd.

Imagine that Cyril and Marc appeared with ktm 690, what you would imagine others riders reaction would be?

ARRRRGHHHH! I've just suffered a "mechanical"

As I have a pathetic broadband connection at home (1.7mbps on a good day) I don't bother using a wireless router (too slow) so use a hard wired connection. But this is upstairs in the study.

As I'm stuck downstairs with my broken leg (easier access to fridge, TV, etc) i've been using my mobile broadband dongle which performs much better at 7.2mbps.

But disaster has struck!

I've just received a message to say my download limit on my contract has been exceeded and whilst I can still view mail and "normal" websites (that's why i'm still here) I can't watch videos, streaming or other "high volume usage" until the next billing period. And no I can't pay to get more as my ISP doesn't think that's fair!!!

As I was intending to watch the Rally online on Eurosport Player (I don't have satellite or cable) this is a major problem.

But there is a chink of light at the end of the tunnel!

Having checked up the terms and conditions it seems the billing period is based on the calendar month, so that's only six hours until full service is resumed...... phew!

Cool video. Shows how much support the factory riders have compared to the privateers.

Issue defined, the following Quads 251,253,254,255,265,271 and 273 will not take part of the event in the Quad cathegory, they will be allowed to run the event but in separate class. (apparently a new class 3.3 had been created, supposely not able to appear in the quad official classification)
Quad race remained quite short of riders now, pitty.
How can it be that with so clear rules, they used 900 cc engines?

Here is Dakar site: Sporting Aspects
Headlines:}Quads:
Reduction of engine power
Changes to the rules for motorcycles have inspired a similar approach to the quad category, with the introduction of restrictions on engine power. Thus, for two-wheeled motor vehicles, the limit is set at 750cc (for four-stroke engines only, and 500cc for two-stroke engines) and for four-wheeled motor vehicles at 900cc.

And from the Moto Quad regulations:

7P2 Groups and classes:

GROUP 3 QUAD
3.1 2 wheel drive – 0 to 750 cc

3.2 4 wheel drive – 0 to 900 cc

3) GROUP 3 QUAD
a) CLASS 1 – 2 wheel drive – 0 to 750 cc
Quads must conform in every way to Article 01.61 of the FIM technical regulations for off-road
rallies.
Are authorised: 4-stroke quads, 2 wheel independent drive.
These machines are based on type approved, production machines, (authorised for use on public
roads) which can be modified and/or equipped for all-terrain Rally competition.
The major parts: frame and engine (cylinder, cylinder head, engine cases) must be standard parts,
and must be freely available to the public. These major parts may be modified, with the exception of
the engine cases, but must respect the FIM Technical Regulations for All Terrain Rallies – Quad
category
Riders: free.
Cubic Capacity: 0 to 750 cc.
b) CLASS 2 – 4 wheel drive – 0 to 900 cc
Quads must conform in every way to Article 01.60 of the FIM technical regulations for off-road
rallies.
Are authorised: 4-stroke quads, 4 wheel independent drive.

At least HughesNet lets us buy more "tokens" to reset the DL counter to zero.

Anyway, maybe Flood or Doyle can tell us if Carlton visits ADVrider and or the cliff notes. I can't imagine anyone out there in the field keeps up with this thread. I know I wont be when I'm out there for the last four stages.
I thinks Flood's mention was from the Eurosport forums. When I replied to Carlton, I let him know about the thread here.

Doyle, do you know anyone in TN TV? Maybe if someone gets word of TeamGB's loss to TN, it would get to a much wider local audience.
