NZ has is a very small market compared to Aus and most of the rest of world. Sydney has a bigger population than all of NZ. Thus we have less economy of scale so prices are higher. The government also whacks imported vehicles with a nice duty tax which doesn't help, then there's the 15% GST on top of all that.

Most of the popular bikes hold their value so its not all bad.

WOF will typically cost around $40.00 pa; rego varies depending on CC

0-60cc $444.18 pa

60-600cc $477.53 pa

600+ $591.69 pa

I understand these rates are due to drop dramatically latter in the year due to ACC levy reduction.

that'd be a fair question

if we were importing bikes from aus.

in relative terms the aussie has tanked, making the kiwi look ok. in reality, little has changed. we're still in the furthest corner of the planet, have no economy of scale, and are paying for imports with a weak dollar

No they aren't ....Only motor vehicles.

"This will improve how the levy system reflects actual risk and cost of injuries."

Further cuts were likely the following year, she said.

Motorcycle and moped levies will remain the same.

The new ACC levy rates for motor vehicles will come into effect on next July 1, while the lower work account levy rate will do so from April.

Appears you are correct. hummm I'll be careful in future to not believe everything I'm told by fellow motorcyclists! Nabbed this off nzta webpage:

Are levies being reduced for all vehicles? Will motorcycle levies be reduced as well?
ACC levies will not be reduced for motorcycles or mopeds in 2015. This is because motorcycle-related injuries continue to generate disproportionately high costs for ACC and motorcycle levies are already heavily subsidised by owners of other types of vehicles.

Motorcyclists will benefit from the reduction in the petrol levy.

will farmers levies go up to cover the cost of injury due to wandering stock on our roads or will motorcyclists continue to subsidise this in their levy?

You tell em ACC, as the Workers one pays for work related accidents and the accidents that happen in the weekend skiing, playing sport, getting pissed and falling over etc are covered by the.....the....help me here ACC...surely they are not subsidised by other accounts.........no they are subsidised by owners of multiple vehicles.
