Like you KLR ! The header pipe looks super ! Is that Jet-Hot coated or simply hi-temp paint ?

Here's mine: I fabed-up a rack for Givi bags and a rear top-plate. Recontoured the seat too. It runs like a Rolex.
Great RR !

I agree that solo trips are very good for the soul. There's a lot to think about traveling all of those miles when its just you and the bike on the open road.

I was born about 10 miles south of Houghton but spent most of my life in Lenawee Co. Love spending time in the UP, have crossed the Big Mac 35 time on 2 wheels. BTW, how do you manage to always get such nice weather?
I'm trying to get better at writing ride reports. Glad you enjoyed this one so much. I think the night time temps was probably mid to low 40's. I was fine in my sleeping bag and tent. I had temps at freezing as well in August when I was out in the Rockies at around 10,000 feet. Makes you move a little faster in the morning after getting out of the tent. I'm in rockwood, michigan if your familiar with that area. This was only my 3rd time across the bridge, second time on 2 wheels. I had planned this trip about 4 months a head of time. I took the last week of sept and first week of oct off from work, knowing that is when the fall colors would be near peak. The weather was crappy until the end of sept in which I had a bunch of things to get done before winter. I kept on watching the weather for some decent conditions and the first week of oct happened to have 5 days of sunny blue skies. It worked out great I never once had to put on my rain gear, can't say that of my other riding trips though.

Great RR !
Nice setup. The exhaust is a big gun evo x series complete system, header pipe and muffler. It came ceramic coated when I bought it. I got it off of ebay this past summer. It had never been installed by the previous owner and was still in the original box. Its much louder than stock, but with re-jetting the carb and the exhaust the bike runs much better. The seat of the pants test confirms that its a bit quicker too.

Great ride report

Just wanted to say thanks for doing an excellent ride report. I've never been to the UP, never even really thought about it, but now it looks massively tempting. Love to go back east for the fall colors - really it's the best time of the year there - maybe this October is time for another trip. Probably will need to be on something bigger than a 250, though.

Great report. I did 119 and the area this fall as well. Did you hit Legs Inn while there? Really great place. Must have been close to the same time as the colors seemed as vibrant. We're doing a UP camping tour this summer and will be visiting most of the places you saw on your adventure, can't wait. I'm in Dearborn, if your ever looking for someone to ride with shoot me a PM I'm always looking to get out. Thanks for taking the time to post.
