Dreams Never Looked So Real

Here is a scanned shot of the AXO advert from VMX Australia. Nice camera work as always by Allan Leahy @ http://www.allanleahyphoto.com/ note that Konflict is highly visible and Atomic got a small shot as well.

Any of you guys care to review that gear? The boots look pretty sweet...but how do they do?

The gear was truly awesome and far exceeded my expectations. We received everything just before we left for Mexico and my break-in of the boots consisted of walking around the shop while we finished the bike up and packed. I was very apprehensive of wearing new leather boots on such a long event, especially in light of the fact that we did not have room for any back-up gear. However, the boots were extremely supple, and were always comfortable. The highest praise I can offer, is that when the race was over and we were walking back to the hotel (several blocks from the finish line) my wife said "are you going to take off your boots?" it was then that I realized I still had them on and was totally comfortable, even after 140 miles of riding and standing around talking for an hour.

As for the rest of the gear, the pants and jerseys were well vented and plenty cool even when riding in 90 plus heat and the gloves, like the boots, were supple and comfortable. All of the AXO gear was provided via Brian at Atomic-Moto in Bend, Oregon. http://www.atomic-moto.com/

I may have already posted a lot of this but another sponsor plug is never a bad idea ....

Boots - To echo Rick's comments, the boots were really a surprise. I loved the vintage look, but was concerned about how comfortable they would be with little to no break-in. They ended up being super comfortable..however, it does take a little longer to buckle them up, due to the vintage style leather buckles. The fit and finish if true Italian...these do not feel like cheap chinese knock-offs. Now, these boots are made for motocross, so if you are planning on using them as a dual-sport adventure boot, they probably aren't the best choice for that.

Pants - The only complaint about the pants was no leg pockets, but this is not an issue for Motocross, just for the long distance races when we wanted to have things like power bars easily in reach. I was worried about the lack of vents, but they are actually well vented with a sort of two layer design...heat was not an issue for me at all. The pants look good and have leather in the right places. Like all of the Trans Am gear, the fit and finish was top notch.

Gloves - The gloves were fantastic! We all initially voiced our concern that they would be too hot because of the full leather design. Jr. and I even bought a second pair of modern-design AXO gloves just in case we hated the leather Trans Am ones. This proved to be unnecessary. All of the Outta Sight racers loved the Trans Am gloves and I don't think there was a single hand blister on any of us after the race! I know that my hands stayed blister-free for the entire race and that is usually not the case for me! They feel and fit like fine leather driving gloves with no chafing from any of the sewn seams.

Shirt - The shirt is very breathable and lightweight, a very high quality product. I had no issues fitting my compression suit under my jersey and of course, the OSR logo looked sweet!

To be honest, I am a big fan of Klim stuff because I think they make high quality gear. I was slightly concerned about what the fit and finish would be of the Trans Am gear just because I had been wearing and racing in Klim for a couple of years. The truth is, the AXO Trans Am gear was every bit as good, or in some cases better, than the Klim gear I wore during the first M1K. I was not missing anything except maybe a pants pocket!

I know that we all get used to people talking up their sponsor's gear whether its really good or not. Sponsorship or not, this gear is really good stuff and was very comfortable...and an added benefit is that we looked pretty bitchin-retro in Mexico!! I am extremely impressed with this gear!

If we can get our bikes together in time, Rick and I will both be sporting our AXO gear at the AHRMA Nationals in Chehalis in August! Come check out the old SL's and the gear!

And a big thanks to Allan for letting AXO use his great photo for their ad!!

...it lives!!

Burning Mexican gas in the streets of Bay City, Oregon, the OSR SL350 lives to race another day (in this case, that day is a Sunday, August 12th)!

Cycle World...

Hey Everybody,

Take a look at the October '12 issue of Cycle World.

There's a photo of a certain someone's red Tacoma pickup as well as some wordage about two teams racing SL350s down in Mexico, or something like that...
