Toshiba Thrive 16GB 10" Tablets
(UPDATE 4/7/2012) - Sold out of the 32gb and 16gb versions a month ago but have 16gb versions available again! Screen protector and stylus still included. Same $312 as before including shipping and insurance.
Toshiba Thrive 10" Android Tablets (awesome for ADV travel) - 16gb Wifi 10" tablet $300 + $12 shipping (Throwin' in free stylus/pen and screen protector too) I'm listing this on ADV because I no longer bring a laptop or netbook with me on multi day rides. I now bring along a tablet computer .. Takes up much less space and is easier to pack. Battery also lasts much longer. This particular tablet has a full size SD card, USB slot and HDMI port which is what makes it work so well for ADV travel. You can pull all of you camera shots and movies from your camera and stash them on the tablet's memory. (most tablets don't have full size usb and sd card slots). It also has a user replicable battery which is nice. Tablets have been refurbished to factory new specs by Toshiba (not some nut job electronics shop in BFE) and come in sealed Toshiba boxes with all factory seals intact. They are in brand spankin new condition cosmetically and functionally. I'm selling these on fleabay for $30 more but I saved a handful for inmates to grab. (only have 10 set aside..) Technical mumbo jumbo/highlights - (detailed long winded specs in chart below)

If only they had ethernet connectors to use internet where there isn't wireless... Like much of the world... If somebody makes a tablet with that and USB, I'll be sold.

I've been looking to ditch my netbook when I'm going on multi day rides and replace it with something like this.. BUT, I like to plot my rides so I can upload them to my Garmin Zumo... Does Garmin have an app for that? (I doubt it
)

This adaptor (linkola) should be plug and play because it supports devices built with Linux kernel 2.6.9 and below. (The Thrive tablet comes with Android 3.2 which is built on Linux kernel 2.6.3). This adapter is $15 on Amazon (linky) A better option would be to buy a tiny pocket wifi router, plug it into the Ethernet port and then you can can use the tablet wireless when you travel in situations where there is no wifi (or where the wifi sucks and an ethernet connection is available) These are $22 on Amazon (link) |

Good point. I don't think Mapsource works on any iPad or Android tablets. Guess you would have to get one of them fancy shmancy windows based tablets.... which cost way more than a netbook or regular tablet (kinda defeats the purpose).

I'm interested! I have a few Qs. So it won't take garmin or delorme software right? What app does the GPS use to display what is going on? A local copy of google maps would not be bad/ I'm also interested in if the GPS functions without WIFI or 3-4G? Also, does the WIFI work without a data plan from a Verizon type of vendor? Getting old has great benefits in many ways, NONE of them are physical... I am getting to the point that a little GPS screen is useless for me, especially rolling down the road. I need a bigger screen for most applications. I'm considering building something like this tab into a tank bag for longer trips. Thanks!

[QUOTE=shoot870p;18154628]are these 16 or 32?[/QUOTE
Just realized the original post title mentioned 32gb. I originally had 32gb and 16gb tablets but just have the 16gb now. FYI, the tablets have an SD card slot so you can add an additional 16gb for $15 since SD cards are so cheap now. shleppy screwed with this post 03-06-2012 at 09:36 PM |

Great price for an Android pad! Too bad Garmin hasn't developed an app for it yet. Can't bring myself to invest in any pad till they do.
