Snotcicle Ride 2012: Steel Horses for Real Horses
Third annual
An alternative motorcycle charity ride... benefiting Angel Horse Rescue See HERE for the 2012 planning thread. 2011 - PICS, PLANNING 2010 - PICS, PLANNING __________________________________________________ _____ What's the point? ... Well, back in 2009, a core group of ADV riders from Tulsa, OK decided we needed to adopt a charity. We watched the annual Toys for Tots Toy Run and knew that this sort of thing generally wasn't for us. Too much chrome and pirate garb.We started shopping around for a rural charity- one that would not likely get much attention otherwise. Angel Horse Rescue fit the bill. We decided to plan a charity ride for winter, in order to further solidify the differences between the "hardcore dual-sporters" and the sunny day cruiser types. So we aptly named it the Snotcicle Ride- Steel Horses for Real Horses. We gather and transport horse supplies and donations over various terrains (ALWAYS including some dirt). ![]() We unload the donations and supplies at AHR for a lunch, then we head out and ride some gnarly trails nearby. ![]() Here are some pics from this year. Not too cold this morning. ![]() Breakfast crew. JumpJet says, "Nom nom". ![]() No pics from the ride out- cold hands and big gloves. Maybe someone else got some? At AHR... Entertainment from the chickens- especially the banty rooster. ![]() Of course there were horses. ![]() ![]() From left- _cy_, Newner, LewisMedlock, and FatBob. ![]() A rider from Arkansas brought the beer... ![]() ... in his fridge! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Just needs a little mud. ![]() Jungmann1's train horn. ![]() The bikes are all pretty clean. For now. ![]() I couldn't really get an accurate pic of all the loot that was donated today. Impressive. ![]() ![]() The horse was a bit more shy than the chickens. ![]() More in a bit...

Great Day, Great Ride, Great Cause!
Sorry, I don't have any pics to share. Interested to see what shots exist of the afternoon ride.

Nice work inmates. Good fun for a good cause.
Interesting old trucks, and the beer trailer also. Very innovative!

Well in the interim let me say:
Great job organizing this event Jason! Glad we can help the Angel Horse Rescue and they do a tremendous job with this event as well. It was fantastic to see some ADV Riders that I haven't seen in a while and meet some new riders as well. Glad _cy_ could join us for his first ride with the group. Also, Brad has a winning attitude to sling through that mud all afternoon and keep smiling! I particularly like the way this event has a breakfast component and a lunch component.

After a wonderfully provided lunch of BBQ brisket, chicken, burgers, dogs, etc. we began dispersing here and there.
Some of us with off road capable bikes had a destiny with mud. Here are some pics and videos of the carnage: ![]() Some less-than-knobby tires were giving some of the crew a bit of trouble. Rick and I found ourselves waiting a bit. But I got to check out this sweet footbridge while Rick tweeted the deets to all his facebook followers. ![]() ![]() There was a bit of mud here and there. And a bit of creek here and there. Nothing a pro KLR rider can't handle. ![]() Here are some pics taken by Dirt2007- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He survived that biff ^ by the way. ![]() To be fair, I didn't make it up those wet ledges the first time either. Here are some more pics taken by Dirt2007- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This man was a trooper. Street tires and little dirt experience on this bike. He broke some parts and was ENTIRELY caked in mud, but he had fun. Glad you could join us. ![]() Newner had an epic get-off right in front of me. When I finally got my bike shut down and raced over to help him, he was face-down and hadn't moved. The bike was crossways on the trail and laying on his left leg. I feared the worst. He shook it off though. Whew. I look forward to the bike damage report from that one. ![]() First time this bike has seen so much mud. Adds some realism to the camo. ![]() We survived the trails- exiting just at sunset. Time to put all our cold weather gear back on and head home. ![]() Fun day, all. Let's do it again next year. Or earlier. ![]()
