Clohesy
Thursday 9th sounds good at this stage.
If it's raining I'll trailer up the range. I am subscribed to this thread but am not getting updates, lucky I checked. Cheers Ken

Yeah its closed until June this year, unfortunately the southern 4x4ers gave it such a bad reputation it has ruined access for bikes, we should lobby the local tourism mob to have it open for vehicles under 500kg or something like that.
Here is the bad news link http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/region/...formation/creb In sadness Ken Loved your coast to coast 93hr vid Philth

Hey fellars, just doing some research for our leg home from the cape after the OCR in August, Basically once we hit Mossman, we are looking for some back roads or tracks that may keep us off the main roads for most of the day. So if we stayed at or around Port Douglas overnight can we head inland and come back out say around Cairns or Kuranda, then hit some more down towards Tully, Kirrama range area and on to Townsville. As long as we can get fuel every 350k say, we would really like to have a good look at any tracks or roads you can recccomend.

You could go straight on down the Gunnawarra rd out of Mt Garnet to Camel Ck - Mt Fox - Hidden Valley - Paluma - Townsville if you dont want to try the Kirrama Rd.

Not sure if you know this - There are other tracks that go parallel to the culpa, but are only a tiny bit further west. They come out on koombaloomba dam Rd and are not as much in the rainforest as the Culpa, and are open since Yasi. So you can still do a similar route as part of a dirt trip from wherever (eg Townsville to Cairns), but use a different track than the Culpa.
I never got to ride the culpa and i doubt it will reopen
