You got to hand it to those pioneers who toughed it out. This was probably a palace compared to some of the homesteader homes. My crappy laptop screen isn't clear enough to show me if those are boards or slabs.
The best thing about Hartsel: H.O.B. Cafe & Saloon Amen to that. I brought a woman I was dating there for lunch and it was so comfortable there that we spent a few hours hanging out and joking around.

Lewis and Clark were facinated with this same view. The photo was taken on their actual campsite in Oct 1804. There's a sign and marker at the site. Clark stayed at the campsite doing a sketch of the plateau and calculating the latitude. They camped there for 2 days. Lewis and Seaman (his dog) hiked to the top of the plateau. (Took all day).
