Hey Walkingbear, do you think he'd be willing to make a set of plates to double up on the steering neck braces like in this picture?

Another thing we need to keep in mind, these plates are bent:

The plates we'll be getting will be flat. After we get them in we should get some ideas together on easy ways to shape them. I'll volunteer idea number 1. It involves a hammer and an anvil

Spoke to Tad this evening and I decided it would be wise for him to have a FRAME to work with. Next week I will box my R100GS frame and send it to him so he can make all the measurements and
corrections.

I will keep the group inform. I will order 5 more than I need .

There will be a price adjustment for the extra piece.

Don't know if this will help ... but I have a couple of frames laying around ... one is an R80 frame from '83 with no title ..I can't do anything with it ...

Thoughts?

Next year it'll be 30 years old which in most states is old enough to qualify for vintage plates. Usually, the requirements for vintage plates are MUCH looser. Most states also allow you to register a vehicle even if you don't have the title. First you have to get the address of the last registered owner from the state, send them a letter via registered mail with the proper forms to release their interest in the vehicle to you. Maybe they will. If the letter comes back as undeliverable (which it often does) you can take the bike in (along with the unopened registered letter marked as "return to sender") for a state patrol inspection where they'll verify the VIN and street legality. They'll give you plates and tabs and a registration in your name, but you have to wait two years before they'll give you the title in order to give the rightful owner a chance to come forward and claim it. At least that's how it works where I'm from. I've done it a couple of times without any problems.

New reinforcements for the R80/100 frames are being tested fitted on my
01 R100 GS frame. I'm picking up the frame on Thurs and will have them
welded on frame .. hopefully I will take enough pics.

We have pictures asap .. the gussets have been welded to my frame.
The will also work on other airheads.. prefect fit on R65
