We sure loved putting on the shows there, it was a great venue! When Hendricks was more directly involved, there was great support and enthusiasm on their part.
Last year something changed with the management and they made it obvious that they wanted nothing more to do with it. So we moved to Palisade last time and it turned out great! (Next show is in Palisade on July 2 2012 by-the-way).
I also learned that the resort is possibly interested in purchasing the old State Hiway Shop on the other side of the river and putting the Gas station/ Convenience store there.

That's interesting. A riding buddy of mine owns the old post office building, which I believe is adjacent to the old state hiway shop. I guess the only thing out there that isn't 'old' is the resort itself.

LOL!...no kidding on the "old" aspect. I often park my van on the parking lot of the post office and get lots of insight about what is and has gone on in the area from the postmaster lady there. Post offices are some of the best places, and people, to get local insight in these smaller communities IMO.

Bump...

Anyone ridden through Gateway recently?

I'll be staying in Ouray June 21-23 and plan on riding up there for lunch and to see the museum.

Would be nice if gas was available, but I can plan for it if there still isn't any...

Yeah. That's my normal gas stop for the area.

Usually ride to Moab. Never been North on 141 to Gateway.

Thought I'd check it out before they board it up!

Funny thing: When I googled "gas gateway colorado", this thread was near the top of the first page!

We went through a few weeks ago and there is gas at the library and what I think is the post office just east of the resort. It was my first time through there so sorry for being a bit vague, but there is gas. No bathrooms though, unless you stop at the resort.

Thanks GrizGirl! I saw the pumps on Google Maps Streetview.

Glad to know they're working!

Yep. I can confirm GrizGirl's observations- Fueled up in town 2 weeks ago.

The resort has changed dramatically. Though I miss the amenities, it actually is quite a bit more aesthetically pleasing. The restaurant IS still open.

Adding on: There are 3 grades of gas available. La Sal only has regular. Next nearest gas would be Naturita.

I was just out that way yesterday.
FYI-It's about 55 miles from Naturita to Gateway. Another 55 miles gets you over John Brown Canyon road and into Moab.

Hey Kathy! there was a bathroom there!! I found it behind that tree. I think Rick even used it!
That was a fun ride, lets do it again soon.

Don't mean to hijack, but how difficult is JBC road? Is it appropriate for an R100 GS with a fairly n00bish rider?
