Furlough is now 6 days!

Breaking news as of noon today...

http://blog.al.com/breaking/2013/08/...tagon_civ.html

Quote:
(AP) U.S. defense officials say they will be able to ease the pain of mandatory, unpaid furloughs that civilian employees have had to bear for a month because of budgetary pressures.

The Associated Press learned that civilians facing 11 unpaid days offwill have those cut to six days.
Officials say the Pentagon found sufficient savings in the final months of the current fiscal year to lessen the burden on those who have had to take a day off a week without pay since early July.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel approved the final numbers this week after meeting with top leaders. Officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

The decision comes as about 650,000 civilian workers began their fifth week of furloughs.

joints - that car sounds like a blast! How do you deal with emissions after removing the cat? I've thought about screwing with the VW but keep wondering what I'd do if they start checking emissions on diesels...

Most of the guys use O2 simulators units to provide back the correct voltage to the computer so it doesn't throw codes. The past several times I have been to emissions tests all they do is plug into the OBD plug and check for codes or computers which have been recently reset.

Lemon poppy seed pound cake

I picked up a box of these.

If anyone has any interest in a few for their kit I would be happy to sell a few off. They may not sound all that good but I thought they were one of the best MRE deserts.

They don't do emissions testing in StMary's(yet).

Downpipes and intercooler went in today.

So what do you think happens when you have lots of traction(new sticky tires) and more HP and TQ?

YEP! broken tranny.

Now the question is weather I should take the tune out and see if BMW will cover it under warranty or get someone to rebuild the existing tranny stronger. I'm leaning toward rebuilding.

Thanks! Due to all the extra emissions crap on the TDI I'd have to get the ECU reprogrammed by a tuner after removing all the other stuff in order to keep it running right. Just adding an O2 sensor would be nice.

I was more concerned with how thorough they'd be (then I remembered how they do the gasoline emissions check...just check for codes like you said) and worried that for some reason they'd notice the missing cat. I tend to be a worst case scenario kinda guy when it comes to bureaucracy. With my luck I'd somehow get flagged and have to replace everything

Shit! Good luck with the rebuild. That's another thing that worries me about stepping up the output of the VW. I don't think that the modest gains I'd see would do anything that drastic, but I still wonder about long term reliability.

If you are talking about driveline failures most of those come from actually putting the power to the ground like J4S is doing with sticky tires. So if you are just spinning the tires then the chance of breakage is greatly diminished.
