Nope, I'm on duty this weekend. Can't go far from home

I just took this pic from my balcony. When you're getting snow all the way down in CO Springs, you know the ski resorts have plenty of fresh powder.

Tammy wants to know if you're closer to the 4 or 10 end of the age range.

That's what I'll tell her when I buy LEGOs.

Had a blast. Although the groupon kids showed up late and only got to kill the newbies for a couple of rounds before calling it quits.

The light of no return

A number of years ago, Blaster picked up some industrial Sodium Vapor outdoor lights. They sat as we pondered what to do with them. Then, last year I decided to get "serious" about putting one at the end of the barn to illuminate the arena. Now, a perfect arena would have multiple lights, but I have neither the amperage available nor additional posts for perfection. One it is.

Then the first bozo. GE doesn't reproduce the entire bracket to hang it. And the light weighs a about a half a metric ton. So, I buy the parts I can source and the project sits. Then I get the idea that I can buy 1/4" strap steel strap and just "bend" it. HA....

So the project sits.

Then I get the bright idea that the horse farrier has a metal working shop and he'd rather be forging there then playing with my stinky horse. So, uses a flower torch and hand peens this piece beautifully. Now, I almost don't want to continue because I shouldn't put this piece 15 feet in the air where nobody can appreciate the peen marks.

So the project sits.

Forlorn that the horse van brakes are quickly approaching un-obtainium for me, and the little DR200 is awaiting parts, I decide to take the final gallop to installing the light this weekend. What could go wrong? I mean a half a metric ton of light requiring nearly a dedicated power circuit to illuminate all which needs to be anchored to a barn eave 15 feet in the air, which I will do from a ladder.

You know the drill, off the ladder, 100 foot walk to garage, find something, walk back to the barn and back up the ladder. And so this goes.all.day.long.

I am quite amused the amount of scrap materials that I can find to use for a project like this. Washers galore, long bolts, even a strain relief. While it's taken nearly a lifetime to build, dare I say the garage is "useful".... So the light is up and operational. Just need to await sunset for the final adjustments

Doesn't get much better than sitting in the basement next to the fire, dog curled up next to me watching Star Wars.

Opening a car dealership

The light of no return is now ready:

The daylight shot:

The far fence about 215 feet from the eave of the barn:
Day

And after sunset

If the horse riding thing doesn't pan out, I think I will just open a used car lot. No foot traffic, but boy will the merchandise look mighty fine under the BIG lights
