Anyone good with XVM? Have finally gotten it and installed ENGIAND's xvm config and its great. What i am trying to change is the size of the minimap. With the new tank type labels next to the icons i cant see anything. Would like to increase the size of the minimap by 50%.

Nevermind :P found it. Thanks geek

BTW, I did an experiment this week to test whether x5 crew experience is applied to accelerated crew training.

It does.

I'll post the evidence later this evening.

after three defeats in a row where my team had 10 tanks left to the OPFOR's 5, and then everyone committed suicide... I am about to give up and go play War Thunder.

So much for a weekly thing ... heh.

This tip is all about shooting dudes without them shooting back. When you hear people talk about sniping they are generally terrible because they don't do the stuff I describe below. It is important to recognize that you cannot be an effective sniper without a dedicated spotter. If you are doing your own spotting, you are not sniping; you are dying.

The WOT wiki has equations for spotting range, but they are poorly presented. Let me do a different poor presentation here. Using a bit of algebra, the spotting equation looks a like this:

Q: Why do I say tankCamo is zero??
A: When firing, tank camo factors are extremely low. For an enemy with 400m spotting range, your visibility is reduced to ~390m. If you add camo skills, camo net, and paint, visibility drops down to ~375m. Useless. Since the effect is so small, I choose to ignore it entirely.

Q: What is this bushCamo thing?
A: On average, most bushes and trees provide a 35% decrease in visibility. The effect is cumulative; if there are three bushes between you and the enemy, your camo factor is >1.0 and the spotting range is locked to 50m. This is true even when you are firing.

Q: What about the opaque bit?
A: A bush only provides cover when you are either a) more than 15m from the bush, or b) not firing. This means you must sit well behind the bush to use it for cover.

Q: So what do I do?
A: Find a spotter on the minimap. Move to a concealed location that gives you a field of fire over his spotting area. Shoot what he can see.
________________________________________________

Examples! (Note that a spotter is required!)
Situation: #..@@....................$
Bush Camo: 0.70
Spotting range: 50 + 350 * (1 - 0.70) = 155m
Actual Range: 220m
In this case, we have your tank 20m behind two bushes and an enemy tank that is 200m distant. You can fire on the target without fear of detection.
________________________________________________

Situation: #.@@.....................$
Bush Camo: 0.35
Spotting range: 50 + 350 * (1 - 0.35) = 277m
Actual Range: 210m
Analysis: Small change. Your tank 10m behind two bushes and the enemy tank that is 200m distant. The closest bush goes transparent when you fire. There is a high probability of detection.
________________________________________________

Situation: #..@@@.....$
bushCamo: 1.0
Spotting range: 50 + 350 * (1 - 1.0) = 50m
Actual Range: 70mm
Analysis: This is the fun part. Three bushes completely conceal you, but you are 10m from being detected. Despite this, you can fire on the enemy without fear of detection.

This tactic works with every vehicle and crew, regardless of vehicle class, regardless of crew experience. It is entirely up to your ability to drive intelligently. It works better with vehicles with high accuracy or excellent HE damage.

Enjoy.
And he treid to describe this to me while I was drunk last night.

After going 2/8 this morning for -2,000 credits, I miss the weekend. I started the weekend with zero credits and ended it with 2.1 million. I completed the grind to the Hellcat, thus elite-ing the Wolverine. I also almost completed research on the T71, AMX 12t, and M26 Pershing. I need 2.8 million for the M40/M43, unfortunately, so I haven't bought the Hellcat yet.

I wonder, in reflection while at work, why weekends like that draw me in. I enjoy playing the game, I enjoy exploring the different tanks and maps and systems in place within it. Yet when given a chance to earn more XP and silver, a chance to, in a sense, play the game less for more benefit per second, I jumped at it. Why? I told myself it was because I wanted to unlock the next tanks in the line. Perhaps I previously underestimated how much the carrot dangling on a stick (Also known as leveling up) motivated me in games. Or maybe the motivations are the same: it's possible that the exploration of systems drives the desire for new tanks, for new game experiences. But if that were purely the case, I would have probably played every tree up to tier four at least by now: there are tanks that I skipped. If I like the game so much, why, when given the opportunity, don't I chose to play it more? Why did I chose to play it less for more benefit? Am I really a capitalist chasing more benefit in less time? I never expected that of myself.

It's hard to resist a free lunch. If they had no special weekends, perhaps there would be fewer players on average.

I decided I wanted an M4.

The M3 Lee is punishment for something I did in a past life, right?

I'm closer to the Hetzer so I'm grinding the Marder instead, which isn't much better.
