A GPS conundrum
Fur cripes sake already I'm dyin here..
For about 7 months now I've been looking to upgrade my GPS V to something faster with more memory and I just can't believe what a chore i've turned this into ..I sit and read posts, i look on sites for pricing, I narrow it down to the 2610 or 276c then re-read everything, go back and compare prices AGAIN.. Then just for fun I decide to throw the Quest into the picture and start the whole process over again.. Back to the friggin drawing board comparing features, add-ons, software, speed, all the normal stuff everyone looks at.. Oh crap, forgot about mounts so now I have to look at them at the same time .. $700 up to $1200 when all is said and done. What will work best in sunlight, do I really need a battery, what's gonna look good on the bike, how much memory do I REALLY need.. WTF is so hard about this?? Just make a decision already and start playing.. Yea, I already know I'm way too anal and indecisive for my own good so that got me thinking again .. How long do others hem and haw over crap like this before they just do-it?? ![]() |

I just bought a factory refurbished 2610 from Ocean Electronics out of NC (only about $520) - it works great...

i did not care for the 2610 next to the 276c if you have no gps,get the 276c. i will keep my V for now and will figure out a way to justify the purchase of the 276c. there is quite a list of accessories to enjoy the 276 for car and bike,

2610 the best
for me...and BMW Mororrad at least. The 276c has a bigger, brighter screen but is hampered by the use of proprietary memory cards. I like that the 2610 uses CF standard card and I don't really consider sun-wash or smaller screen size all that big a deal. In fact, it could be said that the 276c's screen is Too Big for bike use. Its not like my eyes are ever that far from it anyway.
I also have a 2 gig installed with the entire US detail datam, great if you like to travel long distances. This is where the V really sucked BTW. Glad to have gotten rid of it. 2610s ease of use provided by the touchscreen makes all the difference as well. Once you try it out, you won't want buttons. The only negative is that you have to power it up at the bike. For those times when you'd want to take it into the hotel room to figure tomorrows route, consider touratech's 26XX specific remote battery pack. I have one supposed to be getting here today! |

Doesn't the 2610 come w/an AC adapter?

I upgraded to a 276c but...
...kept the V for the rugged offroad / dirt bike stuff. The 276c is more for touring / dual sport trips. Once you get use to the available memory (removable 256m cards) of the 276c you won't be happy w/ anything else.
Cheers! steve |

Proprietary memory is just more expensive. I bought a 2GB CF card for my 2610 for $129 from Newegg.com. |

I don't have the big issue that some others have for the proprietary memory cards. To me it's just a "get over it" thing and it comes down to if you want all the extra good stuff the 276 has. Significantly better screen, more functionality, battery power, possibly more rugged, etc. The touch screen may be more a matter of choice; I for one don't like them for a few reasons, but the main being they hurt the screen visibility and tend to get dirtier hurting the screen visibility even more. One other is that you have to waste precious screen space for the "soft" buttons.
I have used a lot of GPS's; not just Garmins although most of my exprience is with them. The 276 is a very nice platform fer sure. My biggest gripe with it is the in accurate voltmeter. If that's the worst I can come up with.... I'll try and "get over it". If the memory card "disadvantages" outweigh all the rest, oh well... |

I've had them all---276C just outdoes them all.
I wouldn't have a 2610 because of 2 reasons----2 very big reasons----- 1. No battery for off the bike use. 2. Will not save and store tracklogs---now that is a very big one with me--no way would I have this thing. Oh it puts a track log down--but it eats up the end of it and is not saveable.
