I think it indeed was a clutch adjustment issue - hasn't happened after I started paying more attention to my clutch play. On the other hand, I haven't been in traffic this bad for that long since then either.

G650 GS Forks

Has anyone modified their G650 with new forks.

I dont usually give-in to forum complaining but apparently since the re-design in 2003 there has been 1 bmw g650 gs from 2011 that had an issue where the forks may have failed. I love my 650 gs but it has shaken my confidence a little. has anyone changed their front forks for another model type? Should I even be concerned?

Thanks

I'm sure you've seen my comments in the fork failure thread, so I'm not going to go on and on here.

If you're asking for opinions, mine is that this is a non-issue and isn't worthy of another thought.

Have to agree with reenmachine - I've researched high and low and there is no news of any other failures I can find. Put that down to what you will - total confidence in my 650!!

[QUOTE=studioe6;19529405]Has anyone modified their G650 with new forks.

Over 32k, 36k and 40k on two different Dakars and one standard GS. NO FORK Failure and all on/off road travels w/kit and not ridden lightly.

Your options are pretty easy.

1) update your springs (front/rear) and drop in emulators (racetech). They and many other shops can build you new springs front/rear.
2) Swap in a Dakar front / rear suspension but and update it as well or leave stock.
3) Swap in a Yamaha KYB front end (forks/wheel/brakes) and get your front/rear resprung. (House of Horsepower, Hyperpro, Racetech, Sasquatch, etc)
4) Swap in a Yamaha KYB front and retain BMW wheel/brakes/abs (Hawk engineering) and get your rear/front resprung.
5) There are other front options (WP, Honda, etc) but the facts library isn't as robust as using KYB or rebuilding what you have.

I agree!
It was just something for some people to bitch about.

I have total confidence after re-analyzing the incident and research proves it was a "freak" occurrence... especially happening so early in it's life, must have been due to "X" factor meaning something else or non-normal.

Love my G650!

Charger for socket

Hey
Does anyone know or can recommend which "trickle" charger would be good for the G650? I hear some can be plugged right into the aux socket?

Yes I could ask my dealer but I want some info before buying one blindly.

Thanks
Jonathan

Im using a starnard speed charger/maintainer from any automotive store. It has a lead you can mount to the battery with a pig tail to just plug into. Keeps the port clear and is easy to use. Hell, only cost me $30 bones.

WTB: Windscreen for 2011 G650GS

Hey everyone,

Girlfriend dropped her bike and scratched up her stock windscreen on here 2011 G650GS. If anyone has a screen that can fit this bike, please give me a shout. It can be a stock windscreen that you took off for an upgrade or an old upgraded shield that you have since well "upgraded". Thanks for any reply.

So..., right after I filled the gas tank on the 650 last night I got about 30 yards down the road when she quit. All the electrics were still working. I pulled over and waited about 30 seconds then hit the starter and she fired back up and ran fine the rest of the way home. I'm thinking fuel pump, and was wondering if this is a sign of the pump starting to crap out? Or possibly some crud just got caught in the injectors as I just filled up? Would a fuel pump come back to life like that or would it usually quit entirely? Its an 06 with about 11,000 plus miles on it. Any suggestions of what it might be?

Thanks!
Mark

Mine just did that this weekend after a battery change but found the culprit to be a loose terminal nut. Yours sounds a bit different, but check terminals anyway if you havent.

650 quitting

Just a long shot (informed by experience). Might you have filled the tank to the brim? If you did, the charcoal filter can become temporarily plugged and stall the engine.

I have my original from the 2011 - used 1 week until I received the optional one from the dealer.

I am going to pull the trigger next week and buy a 2012 G650GS (White one). The dealer will discount farkels that I want. Can you please list in your order of preference, the most important additions? I will be riding almost 100% on roads (dirt or paved) My thoughts are: tall seat (should be a no cost swap), center stand, hand guards (do they really help keep hands warm?), larger foot pegs, faring guard, engine guard, other goodies? Thanks in advance for your advice!!

I got tall seat (but had to pay for it as an extra, but got to keep the stock seat also), center stand, hand guards (less effective than I thought they would be).
