I just filled up my second tank since I got the bike. Seems to be about 110 miles until gas light comes on.

I didn't get to test the reserve at all as I filled up soon after light both times.
I get 150-160 before the light comes on, depending on how I ride. 16,000+ miles on it so I have a pretty good feel for it.

interested in getting a sertao

howdy folks,
i'll been looking at the 2013 sertao. any short owners? i'm 5'7", with a 29" inseam. most dual sport bikes i've been looking at (drz400) stand very tall. my current bike is a 94 yamaha xt225 and i want something bigger engine wise. i hate having to do a balancing act on bigger bikes, especially when i hitting the trails. I know there are lowering links and triple trees to lower the front. I just would some input. also how easy are these bike to work one and maintain?
thanks

Yeah, 110 seems really low. Mine usually hits reserve around between 150-170, and that's when I was commuting from Jersey with plenty of city idling. Right now I'm around 180 and it still hasn't come on, but that was on a road trip to Pennsylvania that didn't involve much traffic and except for a brief stretch of spirited riding no the Turnpike was done at a relatively moderate pace. Reserve should give you about a third of the miles that the rest of the tank did, but I've never had it go past 30 and I've never run out.

I rode my son, Zach's 2013 G650GS from Midland MI to Scottsbluff NE a couple of months ago right after the 600 mile service. I got about 120 miles per fill-up. I would stop for gas as soon as practical after the reserve light came on.

I ran out of gas on I-94 at the Michigan-Indiana state line. I was going steady 75 mph with the flow of traffic. The "reserve" count-up odometer was 40.2 miles into the yellow.

heres a link to some fuel figures
http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/bmw/g650%20gs

it really seems the way a bike is ridden as in

terrain / speed whatever a individual rides there bike that is going to determine there fuel
my 650 and a mates gs800 filled up at the same place on a trip and the next fill we both took 8.12 litres for 243 klm's so he was doing it easy and i was reving a bit harder to keep up with him i suppose lol the only answer we had for it

different grades of fuel will effect the mileage figures by a lot [proven in my car ]
lose 100 klms--60miles per tank using ethanol crap in the car

Thanks guys. I'll give it a few more tanks before I judge.

Meanwhile do you do anything special during break in period?
It's got about 250 miles on it now.

I doubt NYC proper is a great place to break in an engine(or look @ mpg) on anything. Manual tells you to vary speeds & keep below whatever. Also says to breakin on dino oil for 10,000km's.
On my maiden voyage from AL to KY(MC had 1,370 miles at start) of 700+ miles, I was getting ~175 miles on rural 2 lanes before light came on, then on slab that went down to ~150.

On my 2012 G650GS, I get approx 280KM (170miles) from full to reserve if I drive in a sedate and reserved manner. On the other hand if I drive aggressively and at 70 to 75 mph or more I will get approx 230 km or 140 miles full to reserve.
I have not tested the reserve capacity but I have no doubt I could go 60 miles at moderate speeds.

Over the winter I was getting close to 200 before the light came on, 210 (miles) once. Then they switched to the summer blend gas, more ethanol and it dropped back down to mid 180's when the light comes on. That is on my commute, 32 miles each way 70-80 mph on the highway. Mot I did on a tank was about 230 miles, I was a little nervous. Over 13k miles on a 2009.

Wow, a lot of the mpg figure you guys are posting seem real low. I have a '10 and I never get less then 200 miles from a tank. I'm not exactly light on the throttle, but I don't do much of the 80mph freeway stuff either.
When you fill up, how much are you usually putting in? I am usually 3 gallons, or just a little under.

Most of us are talking about until the light comes on, which would put us at around 200mi at empty. Please tell me you're not getting 200 before the light comes on.

Love the all black G650GS. Graphics on bigger BMW's are getting
too Japanese bike looking.

Looks good in black.
But I do like my white.
Any actual feature changes for 2014?
Maybe I'd rather not know being that I got my bike 2 weeks ago.
