My Dakar Story.

A little about my self. I am Dave Strydom a South African living in Topeka Kansas. I am a photographer and so got the opportunity to go with The Freedom Rally Racing team to Dakar. I was a driver /help and photographer. I am going to write this as best I can. My skills at writing and spelling is know to suck so if you want to freak about it tuff shit. Sit back and go with me on my ride. I will post video and stills as I can. Will also put up zenfolio gallery with lots more.

We loaded the bikes in November and had Ned's bike, engine and Jonas tires and Bill Conger spares from Rally Pan Am

in our container. All went well with the loading. The container was supposed to be in BA the 21st of December 2011 and so there was lost of time to prep every thing.

As all know by now that did not happen. After lots of begging and organizing we got the container The evening of the 28th.

Our team Freedom Rally Racing consisted of Michael Stanfield(Mike) Rider #147,
Luis Belaustegui Rider #150 first guy to try do the Dakar on 150 KTM and Mark Davidson AUS. We had Scott Spears ,Jaime Valdez

and Max from AUS as mechanics.

Here is a clip of Ned at the decanning.

We like to freak out here, but not about English grammar.

Dave, thanks for coming on to advrider and sharing with us. We followed your team, but had less general awareness and connection with you guys than we did with the Rally Panam guys. Can't wait to know more!

I'll embed here that video link you posted with Ned:

At the Airport.

Ok lets back track. We flew the 27 from Kanascity MO to Dallas then to Buenos Aires.

The Flight was ok did not sleep. I am big boy and thus was super uncomfortable. So we are at the airport.

There are teams everywhere . At the exchange in the lobby and outside. Lots of languages. I am lucky and can speak Dutch ,German ,Afrikaans and Flemish.

The excitement is there even if you are not at Mar del Plata yet. The Aso had busses that will transport the teams to the Harbor or to Mar del Platta.Looked pretty organized . We are taking taxi to Mike that is in BA already to wait for the update of the container as above stated.
