ZUMO 550 and BackRoad Maps Digital Version Conflict

Hi

I have a Zumo 550 and have recently purchased a digital copy of BC BackRoad Maps.

I have a bit of a problem with the combination that I am hoping one of the GPS really really smart guys can help me with

I use the the Zumo on the 4x4 and the GS.. so it moves back and forth.

The Zumo has a feature that turns the unit into and out of Day / Night mode automaticly at SunRise / Sunset. Nice feature designed not to wash out any amount of nigh vision might have

The problem...... the BC BackRoad Maps will only work by overriding the Zumo Night Setting... so it works great in the daylight, but after dusk that you can read by the glow of the GPS off my DayGlow Areostich. Doesn't do much for being able to use the mapping after dark... and still see where your going.

I have contacted the Vendor, very nice, polite and helpful in as much as to explain that they do not have a fix for the problem, the maps will only work in Day Time Mode, And naturally because it is a digital product, they have a no return policy. I guess that make sense in the Digital World we live in. But I can't help hearing in my head the old song from days gone by ........" Too Bad.. So Sad "

But I digress

Here is where you really really smart GPS types get to save the day.... anyone have a work around to the problem... Something in the recesses of Garmin technology that will force the non compliant maps to comply to my wishes to have night vision again

Thanks in Advance the the GPS Folks

Only thing I can suggest is turning down the brightness at night.

Ya, the Backroads boys are still on the learning curve with their digital products and the consumer suffers. On one update elevaton data was linked to depth and only every fifth "contour" would show its "depth". Makes no sense at all that the map locks the unit into daylight mode.

Bah, at least you can use your backroad maps on your Zumo. I purchased the BC/Alberta maps and the file is too large for the Zumo 550 to read. This was confirmed by Garmin but obviously not tested by Backroads. So, my wife ended up using the maps on her Nuvi. I will be purchasing a Montana and handing the Zumo on to my wife.

On the Zumo 550, go into settings / Display / Color Mode. You can set it to Daytime, Nightime or Auto.

Yes this in fact true.

I can turn the night screen off , and then turn the day screen dimmer down enough that it might wash out my night vision.

But I was ( still ) hoping someone knew a work around that would allow the Zumo to work as designed
