Side note: Sterling engines are COOL. I built one way back in the day. Loaned it out for a science project, and haven't seen it since. You can now buy kits online to build them.

when a friend sent me that link, that was the first one that piqued my interest. how nuts is that? makes alternative energy seem much more promising..

External combustion is really old technology, but with a new high tech twist to the combustion processes (i.e. waste industrial heat) it's a viable power producing process now.

I ain't no kind of engineer, mechanical or otherwise, and can't even hold the rope fercryinoutloud--but even I'm fascinated by that engine concept.

And on another Chucklehead note, I got this email with a buncha history factoids a while back. This one particular factoid was the most interesting of all:

They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot and then once a day it was taken and sold to the tannery. If you had to do this to survive you were "piss poor", but worse than that were the really poor folk, who couldn't even afford to buy a pot, they "Didn't have a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low.

This is amusing to me even tho I ride a KLR and don't have a pot to piss in
