Africa top to bottom 2012

Hi there. I'm planning a ride from Dubai to Cape Town starting this May or June 2012.
The plan so far is to leave Dubai and ride the 8500Km, mainly camping at night.
I'm 1 year into planning the project and have a nice fat spread sheet with lots of details.
So now I'm looking for some other riders to join in.
If you have seen the film "Mondo enduro" that is more like the trip than "long way down".
So if you are interested or have some advice after doing such a ride please get in contact!
Some personal back ground- I'm a 50 year old Australian who rides a DRZ 400, was a MX and desert racer when young and fearless.. I'm handy with tools having woked as a motor mechanic and tradesman fitter & turner.
My other sport is ocean racing and have done 25000 Nm so far including the Sydney to Hobart race.
Dubai is my home now and a good place to buy a bike, although I think you have to have a resident permit to register and insure it.. www.dubizzle.com is where I bought the Suzuki. BMW's are very popular here and supported well.

All the best

Trev

Hey Trev,

East coast of Africa is a classic trip, you'll have an amazing time. For plenty of background reading, try horizonsunlimited.com, lot's of info re: routes, visas, gear etc. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any specific questions. Happy planning.

Hello Trev, I suppose you are well on your way by now. But if you have not yet arrived in Johannesburg you ,might like to make a call by me. I have some vacilities here, and do quite a few 6 to 8 day adventure rides rides on Suzuki DRs and DRZ400s. May be able to be of some assistance. Good luck with your trip.

Postponed the trip :-(

Thank's for the replys, but have had to postpone the trip for another time.
Didn't manage to find anyone else to join me, then work slowed right down restricting funds. Been doing some great day rides here in the UAE in the meantime and have clocked up 16000 Km on the bike in 2 years. Heading to SE Asia shortly and will try to work out how to get the bike over there, somehow.. All the best!
