Wow, added almost a 1/2 pound on the pegs alone. Just points out how we tend to calculate weight removal, but overlook the ways it gets added back on.

Yep , I have some more weight add-ons coming up

So a bar swap , and then going with big pegs would be a wash , both are nice improvements but no weight loss with that combo.

if this bike is used for adv/ds touring what does a few lbs here or there matter? your gonna load it up with gear anyway.
if this bike was bought for serious off-road riding is it the best choice???

Hey Bill. FWIW I do both with it. I do have another bike for ST, but this is such a good explorer.

That thought had occurred to me, and I addressed it in post 29. Sure it will come up again though.

very impressive difference in the sprocket weight! thats a huge amount of rotational mass you are reducing...

I dont have HD tubes for example...I just use an old inner tube on the outside if the rear tube...to add a little girth...Im sure it weighs less than and HD tube. for sure...

I will be doing a usd swap to cr250r forks on my 88 xr600, this after upgrading to 98 cartrudge forks... I can only assume they will be lighter...

My 88 forks only(no triples) feel like they weigh 20lbs each! full of fluid.

Im only assuming nice twin chamber usds cr forks will be slightly less hefty...

dont be suprised if the crf's are close to , or more than the conventionals ,

and yes ,

that sprocket difference was a big suprise to me , biggest loss so far % wise .

From what I have heard the Showa TCs are lighter, and you don't need a brace. I know the wheel is lighter, plus the CRF axle and spacers are aluminum.

the sprocket is important too because its rotational weight and that effects acceleration.
