So is the entire rally only 20 miles? I'd rather not head all the way to WV to ride for 20 minutes. I was figuring it would be at least a couple hundred miles if it is split over two days with night stages.

I meant last time we did the same twenty mile stretch about 6 times, plus transits. Some forwards, some reversed.

There was supposed to be more, but for whatever reason a few stages got canned at the last minute, mostly because of lack of volunteers, I think.

I see...so I assume there is a lot of sitting around unless the transits are decently long. I'll be there, just hope it's a lot of fun and good practice for future events.

Some events you will spend the whole day riding with minimal down time. Some events run into problems that delay a stage and then you have down time.

I'll be happy as long as the dirt ninja has no issues and I don't get hurt. But I'm obviously hoping for as much riding as possible.

Jumping in the pool again on this one.

With a couple more years of exprience under my belt this should be a big improvement on my sorry showing at Sandblast a few years ago when I crashed at low speed in shakedown and had to withdraw.

These roads sure seem similar to our home riding turf in north Georgia.

I sure won't be in contention to win unless everyone else pulls a dramatic dismount, but I will be there to compete to the best of my ability and have some fun!

This is my first competition of any type for motorcycling and I'm coming with the same attitude, I will do my best but have no expectations to win. I just want my bike and myself to hold up and perform decently.

+1 Winning isn't even in my zipcode Now crashing.........

Did a little motorcycle training today to hone my cornering skills. I'm wicked fast in a straight line...., but need some confidence in my cornering. Then I ran out of gas, but only had to push the bike maybe 500yards to the gas station. Then I broke my shifter, it was more of an adventure getting home than hauling ass on gravel.

The bike is currently, not rally ready.

All that matters is that you do your best.

however many rallies I've been to, they're all about finishing and doing the best I can. Usually that is enough challenge.

I've heard it said this game is all about confidence in the corners.

My bike is not ready at all...I've never ridden it in dirtbike status but this weekend will hopefully mark it's maiden voyage...if my chain arrives

if it is street legal it is 95% prepped. Slap on the appropriate tires, make sure your brake pads are fresh and you have a good headlight and mirror and you should be good to go.

haha...I have a little bit more work to do than just that. My bike is a Ninja 650R turned dirtbike so on my still to do list is mounting the headlight(need to build a mount), mounting the instrument cluster, building my headers, and possible extending the swingarm a bit. I'll post pics in the near future but I won't have a ton of ride time on this bike before the Rally.

and I thought I had a lot of work on my DRZ turned rally bike to prep for the Mexican 1000!

Looking forward to checking out this beast in person.

Hoping to have the headers, headlight, cluster done this weekend. Arriving from the brown, white, purple trucks tomorrow are the following (lime green SM fender, Baja Designs 8" LaPaz headlight, Weapon R coolant reservoir, chain, wiring connectors, tubing for headers, and I'm probably forgetting some things). Spring for rear shock is currently being made at Cannon. I'm riding the bike 80 miles tomorrow so it will be rideable tomorrow but a lot of work will be done on Saturday.

Goals are, better off road than my old KLR, close to as good on road as my v-strom, under 400lbs wet, 11 inches of ground clearance.

Cool thing is the 650R has a cassette tranny so you can pull the whole thing out with 4 bolts ( I hate splitting cases)
