Bummer, I was hoping to have my new dr650 project bike for this ride but the tank is on back order and shock is probably not gonna happen on time either.

Sorry you will not make it

I need to have the parts back from the machinist by mid next week to get it all zipped up before I leave for the MX1k. It's still possible....SHOULD only take one night to get it all back together, gotta dial in the carb, going from 644 to 657 CC's, then a few days to break in.... It's getting close.....for me.

Route change

A word from our fearless leader (not me - just relaying a message):

"I learned a few things on Saturdays scouting trip. I've decided day two is just two ambitious for a weekend ride. I also think we would get to Idyllwild way two late and think riders would probably peal off at Anza and miss the best part. Id like to propose a alternative route that i think will be funner and allow us to enjoy the ride more. After all this shouldn't be the Desert Dash. Its similar to the official route but cuts out the southern section and the Desert.

Day One
Start at Packards in Ramona at 0900
Santa Ysabel TT to Black Canyon Rd
Mesa Grande to 79
79 to Palomar TT
371 to Anza for lunch
Bautista Canyon Rd to Forest Rd 6S16 to Table Mountain TT
Table Mountain TT to Lake Hemet
Camp at Lake Hemet in group site (getting a price quote)

Day Two
Back up Table Mountain TT to Rouse Hill RD
Bee Canyon to San Jacinto TT to Idyllwild.
Lunch in Idyllwild Ca.
Idyllwild 243 to 74 to Anza.
Cooper Cienega TT to Puenta La Cruz Rd to Lost Creek Rd
79 slabbing to Santa Ysabel gas station.
Shake hands and head home hopefully not to late

Here's the new proposed route. Please give feedback. Is this better or worse than the posted route?

Link on Duealsportmaps.com

Lake Hemet Campground

Note: Thanks to Eddie making sure i wasn't routing to closed gates."

I like it! This also works better for anyone that wants to "Park N Ride" (leave your truck/trailer at my place and ride) since it is a looped ride.

Certainly looks good. Does the percentage of dirt to street stay about the same?

At least the roads that I know are some of the most fun to ride in the area.

My guess is that there is more dirt on this route. The old route had a long paved section from the end of Boulder Creek road to the campground @ Butterfield (although fun roads).

Sounds like we can plan a future trip using Boulder Creek rd and then south and southeast county areas.

If I'm in town, I'll likely follow last weekend's game plan again......show up for breakfast next door to Packard's at Amerient at 8am......meet and greet at 9am with the gang......lead you out on The Smoker and wave goodbye at Black Canyon Bridge

Santa Isabel TT is shown behind my bike in the photo below......you'll be traveling down the slope from west to east...

Lake Hemet Campground is not Moto friendly and we'll be staying instead at Hurkey Creek Campground just up the road. (Craig)

Did a road trip out there a few months back and went by Lake Hemet campground, the big one on the lake? Rode out to the public access for the lake for a break. Why isn't it moto friendly?

We also stopped at the one across the hiway and north about a half mile. Nice place, friendly peeps at the guard shack.

Tell us more...

So the reason Lake Hemet campground is not bike friendly is that they only allow bikes at sites 201-208 and would only allow a couple people per campsite and would not allow us to use the group site becasue we were on motorcycles. They allow cars at all sites but not motorcycles.
Seems ridiculous.

+1

Is "Hurkey" the one just north of there?

I have also heard the campground at the lake gets a lot of loud drunken parties. Oh wait...Isn't that what we do?
Seriously, someone told me it was less desirable for a bunch of reasons but I can't quite remember the conversation.

EDIT: You know it's funny, there are places that just don't like motorcycles. I imagine some have been burned by biker gangs and just lump everyone together. We've been to RV parks where they don't like dogs. We have 3 pomeranians, none are over 12lbs.
