Camping
Is anyone camping in the bend area or just staying at the resort? I called them and they said no camping on their property.

There's a crap-load of camping just a few miles up the road. You cannot camp on the river side of the 41 road south of the resort but just about anywhere else is open season! |

From the East
I thinking about riding in from Pittsburgh, PA. Are there any other guys out there I could meet up with on the way?

It's primitive camping - like, no host, no picnic table or facilities unless you're close to a snow park in which case, there are crappers but no water. (Google earth the 41 road on the west side of the DesChutes River and see thousands of acres of USFS land.) Further up the road (25 - 35 miles) there are a number of lakes with more traditional, fee campgrounds. Tumalo State Park is on the other side of town but is usually booked in advance. Myself, I'd just roll up into the woods and pitch the tent, break camp in the morning and come back into town for breakfast.

I might make a three week trip out of it. A week to get out to the west coast, a week to spend there, and a week to get home. No particular route in mind yet, just blast across the boring plains, then slow down and start enjoying things.

I rode up solo from San Juan Capistrano to Tahoe last year. I took a couple days up and back to enjoy my trip. It was my first ktm rally. It was really fun. Tahoe was really beautiful. Tour guides were great. And hospitality was excellent.
Although Paul K was a little slow! :) C'mon Paul bring THE REAL bike up this year! Better yet let's ride up together! Anyway I hung out with Dave Wachs and gang. There good fun people, so Im looking forward to seeing them again and there local routes. Especially since I've never been to Oregon. This year it's a lot farther away so... I'm working on my schedule to leave Thursday morning. I will ride up if I have someone to ride with. Otherwise I may just through it in the back of the truck. Come home Monday. Let me know if anyone is down here in South OC. Paul????
