Thumb Hiking in Alaska

Yesterday we made another beautiful hike just out of Girdwood ; we took the Winner Creek trail up all the way to a point where you can cross the river on a hand tram . The trail went through this amazing forest, the most northern rainforest of the continent .

Today Julio and Luisa are seeing the Chugach mountains properly, in my buddy's airplane. They should have some good pictures to post.

I was hoping someone would get them up! I just couldn't get it organized fast enough.

Whenever we think it can't get any better, something new and better comes up .
Today's flight out over the glaciers and kayaking among the icebergs was definitely the highlight of this journey...so far

Vince, thank you so much for setting this up and Guy for taking us out there

Laugh Airborne

Yesterday morning , Vince organized an incredible experience for us : He got a friend of his , Gus, to get us flying over the Chugach mountains . Gus met us at the local airstrip , showed us on a map where we would fly to and over , what we could expect to see and a few minutes after that we were airborne . We were flying over rivers and glaciers , it was just unbelievable . I have been on many glaciers on different continents but seeing them from the air was something completely different , it’s definitely the best way to be able to appreciate its colors and beauty . Our pilot Gus, he had the eyes of an eagle : He was spotting bears, mountainsheeps and moose from a big distance, he pointed them out to us , he flew an other loop to get us a chance to see them better . Not only is he a great pilot , but he knows so much about this great land and its nature . I just hope that we will be able to return what he has done for us , when he comes through Guatemala on his upcoming ride down to Tierra Del Fuego .

After flying all over the place , we landed on a very short strip next to Lake George ,a small lake next to a glacier with a lot of small icebergs floating around on it .

Once we were down on the ground we hiked over o the lakeshore where Gus has a kayak stashed

And then we went out on the lake, an undescribable experience

On the way back Luisa took over the plane…

What an amazing day !!

MUCHISSSSIMAS GRAGIAS, VINCE Y GUS

Yesterday we rode down to Seward on the Kenai Peninsula . On the way there we went to the Exit glacier and we hiked up to the moraine and got a god look at the ice .

From there we went on to Seward, we tried some good, fresh Halibut and then we went for a walk to the harbor before heading back to Girdwood.

Downtown can be fun if the cruise ships aren't overwhelming it...great museums, history and good food and beer.
PM me if you would like a phone number and if I am not busy when you get here I would be happy to ride with or take you around in the car.
We should arrive in Juneau on Monday 13 ; I did send you an email .
