Leaving Alaska

Leaving Alaska is always hard!! I will go out on a limb and say you have had an experience that very few people will ever be able to match! Nobody will ever top what you and Luisa have experienced! I've had a great time just following along!!

Valdez

OK, finally internet fast enough to upload some overdue pics

We rode out of Wasilla(where we spend an other night at AKmuds place) and we got some rain on the way out to Valdez, but not enough to no let us appreciate the beauty of the scenery

Once we arrived in Valdez the weather improved and we went out exploring the surroundings

And then we went to a river that is famous for its salmon run, salmons everywhere

And everybody trying to get them

The next morning when we left for Tok , the weather was great, blue sky and clear view of the surrounding glaciers and mountains

All the pics with the time&date on them were taken by Luisa with her new camera

Thumb Tok Campground

After Valdez we stopped again in Tok at Vanessas campground in Tok , http://www.thompsonseaglesclaw.com/
A great place fro riders for riders ; you always meet other riders there , you can use Vanessas tools and shop

This time we met one couple from Alaska on their way down to Alaska, a couple from Romania ontheir way from Alaska to Argentina, a retired Navy pilot who has been all over the planet, a swiss guy on his way down to Argentina (he had still some fresh salmpn that we put on the fire)

I don't remember; he is the only guy on the picture old enough to be retired beside myself

Juneau #1

At our arrival in Juneau , Greg (AKtraveler) and his buddy Phil were waiting for us on the docks

From there on we got escorted by those guys , one in front and the other one behind us all over Juneau .

The first stop was at a great viewpoint for the Mendenhall Glacier

At an other great spot right on the lake we stopped and Greg produced out of his topcase an amazing picnic , including smoked salmon and kingcrab among other things…

…and all this with this background

Then we kept on with our guided tour all over the place

What an amazing effort from Greg to show us the best of Juneau, and he proved everybody who says there are no roads in Juneau, wrong . We rode over 250 KM in just 32 hours there !!!!!

man you had some nice weather in Alaska...and yes it was hard for us to leave as well. Love your pics, great to see you had blue skies. We got soaked for almost 90% of our trip last year but you know what? I would do it all over again even on the rain....stay safe and enjoy!
