Before this incident I didn't like Robby Gordon too much. After watching all the stuff around this bad deal I gained a new appreciation for him.

I hadn't called myself a Fan of anything other than that Big Ole 'Murican V8 with it's deep throated moan and how he has the gumption to go it as a Super Privateer. I also appreciate how after having to give up parts on his Toureg drove him to run his own team. He definitely has Drive!

I would guess that the team that submitted the protest withdrew it when they won. They didn't need to protest it at that point.

Does anyone else find it convenient the protest popped up shortly after his hired gun driver and (sorry) teammate Nasser Al-Attiyah quit in the middle of the race?

I gained respect for Gordon, and lost all I had for Al-Attiyah.

Nasser did not quit, he broke down

Didnt give up, he didnt have another belt and was forced to retire. Subtle but notable difference

I was there in Copiapo, as a non-racer, and I have witnessed the national pride when a Chilean racer comes through, but Robby Gordon has rockstar appeal. When his Hummer arrived the entire crowd looked and ran his way.

He was a total gentleman and we were able to exchange a few words with him at the Chilean border inspection station near the San Francisco pass.
