How do you secure your helmet?

I find it a PITA to carry my helmet every were I go. Just curious about the different setups people use to secure their helmet to their bike.

If it's not looking like rain I lock it to my luggage rack with a regular master lock through the d rings. It goes with me if it's raining.

Lots of folks on campus just leave it sitting on their mirror. They are obviously more trusting than I, both of the wind and of other folks.

I use a HelmetLok. It is a combo-locking carabiner.

I learned my lesson on not leaving the helmet on the mirror/ handlebar when some drunk idiot decided to sit on my bike without permission and consequently dropped my helmet to the ground.

Nowadays I take it with me whenever I have a reasonable expectation to be able to place it somewhere safe, otherwise I lock it to the rear seat helmet holder when not. Taking it with me gives the advantage of not sticking myhead into a 140 degree oven when the summer rolls around. I get a good 15 seconds of cool helmet before i start sweating

Not to derail this thread but my first paragraph got me thinking... what is it with some people thinking that bikes are a public playground?

I am generally a leave it on the mirror kind of guy. But then neither of my KTM's has a helmet lock. Same with my jacket and gloves. I used to use a helmet lock when I had one. But even then I still just stuffed my gloves in the helmet and threw my jacket over the bike.

And I have never had anything stolen in over 30 years. Which is likely just pure dumb luck. But, as the saying goes, it is better to be lucky than good.

I typically carry my helmet with me. If I leave it behind, I use the factory helmet lock. I have a 6-foot cable lock that I run through the sleeve of my jacket and the bike if I leave it behind.

When I'm alone, I put it in one of the side cases (ST1100). But when the wife's with me, we put our jackets in the cases, so the helmets are secured using a bicycle lock, through the opening (FF helmets) and then to a spot on the bike.

Easy to store when not in use.

Depending on where im at, sometimes I take it with me, sometimes I leave it on the mirror or lock it to the bike. The best lock I've found that's handy is a gun cable lock that comes with a gun when you buy it. They work great and are easy to keep in the tank bag.

Start a new thread. It will evolve into a vigorous discussion, I promise.

Stick it on the handlebar.
Its cheap, if someone took it, not big deal.
My bike DOES have a helmet lock, I never use it.

It would suck not to be able to ride it home because someone walked off with your helmet.

Same here, but I like the cable lock idea.

I do use the factory helmet lock occasionally, but I have an, admittedly, unreasonable fear of someone cutting the D ring off to steal the helmet. Why someone would do this I will never know, but I have heard of it happening.
