I was able to get up north last weekend for a couple of days on the NNEAT before heading on to Fundy NP. I started out from Coleman SP and bailed in the Millinocket area. Just want to say thanks to Canuman and Dockingpilot for their efforts in laying this route out. For a boy from Connecticut, being able to cover such long distances off road was unimaginable! Thanks for the fun.

Is it valid on motorcycles? I thought it was only ATV's

I think it goes like this:

Vermont distinguishes between ATVs and Motorcycles, and motorcycles are generally prohibited on ATV trails. ATVs are themselves prohibited on much state land, but street-legal, plated motorcycles are not, so long as you're on a road. (The definition of a road is fairly loose.)

NH requires a sticker for both ATVs and Motorcycles on OHV trials, although motorcycles are still prohibited in some areas.

Dockingpilot explained Maine.

Hi riders,

I started my trip planning for this Summer and I will be riding this entire route from Van Buren ME to Harvey Lake VT! This is our first ADV trip of more than 2 days on a my motorcycle, and I convince my friends to come along but it puts pressure on me cause if I screw up they will never want to come again on a trip

If I understand in this thread, it doesn't seem to be an issue about going from Parmachenee Rd crossing onto Magalloway Rd on the College Grant and coming out in Pittsburg NH? Or I should take the other route that goes around it but it don't seem as nice and more black stuff on the ground?
Is there anything else I need to know about the route?

Thanks!

That's a tough call. Mallogway Mountain rd. was open on the inaugural trip. Our 2nd trip it was gated on the NH side but still easily go aroundable. The cabin owner we stayed with told us it was ok.
Your right it's a very nice ride that way. Just hard to say on it's accessibility.

We ran the big loop from Lake Francis out to Aziscoos this fall. It was wide open. You can skirt around the College Grant, pretty much. Them Dartmouth boys can be a bit sniffy.

I see your avatar. Watch for large ungulates. I had a deer jump an embankment on that run, and come way too close for comfort. I assume you know the foibles of moose.

Thanks for the warning! I don't know if you been to New Brunswick before but moose and deer are everywhere in this province also. The logging roads in Maine looks pretty much the same as here, and I'm aware that they can pop out of the woods in a blink of an eye, it happen before.

I've ridden in New Brunswick. It's a place I'd like visit again soon. It's a lovely province. You will find the terrain on the NNEAT pretty similar, although it is more mountainous than much of what I experienced in NB.

One thing you will find is that cell service is significantly worse in many areas than you'd find in Canada. In many areas there is none. While riding Newfoundland last August, we received warnings that the cell coverage was very poor. In most cases, we were at least able to text while surprisingly far off the beaten track. Don't expect that here. If you are going solo, I'd highly recommend bringing some type of tracking device.

It's 85 here in LA right now so I can't complain, but oh how I miss the lush northeast for sure.

Just not in winter.

I'm gonna be in Derby, VT at some point this summer. I would like to try some of this route. Probably Canaan - Houlton. Do I have to have any ORV stickers? Thanks for creating these.
