T or C ride last week end
A group of 8 of us rode the T or C area last week end. First day we rode up Monticello Canyon from Exit 89 off of I-25. We did Burma Rd for the first time and loved it. We found a great ~17 mile long jeep trail loop north of Red Rock Rd and a few miles west of I-25. It was all on marked forest roads.
Next day we did Palomas Gap. We always ride in on the east side of the river from NM 51. This is a really fun ride. We rode the east side again on this trip. But just for grins we thought we would check out the place where others cross the Rio Grande south of town. It looks like it has just been dredged and it looked uncrossable to all of us. There was a huge pile of gravel there presumably from the dredging. And the crossing looked nothing like pictures I have seen. There was no island in the middle. We did the gap and found a road out that avoids the washed out place. Went up to the Radio Towers and took the jeep trail south that heads towards Apache Gap. This was very steep with ledges and was all a couple of our group could handle. We then cruised up to 51 on good graded roads and came back to T or C. Some of us got a little wasted at the bowling alley behind the Oasis Saturday night. I didn't take any pics, but others did including lots of video and they may post them here. BTW This was actually a preride for a fund raising ride to support Blackfeather/NMOHVA trail preservation efforts. The fund raising ride is tentatively scheduled for late October. That ride will include a lot more loops including some in the mountains that we couldn't due because of snow this time. wbbnm screwed with this post 03-06-2012 at 07:58 AM Reason: new info |

Don't forget Chloride canyon & then go left over to the St Cloud mine.
Or stay in the canyon to the end & do the hard right up hill up into the higher forest. You can work to get on 59 (paved) & go east to Winston for lunch at the General Store. They also have fuel, usually open til 5 or 6 PM. The T or C area is good riding in nearly all directions. |

That would be me... ![]() We hung out and watched Supercross at the bowling alley Saturday night. I got to experience some true culture that night. Let me tell you, T or C chicks are something else.

great time
Thinking back over the food escapes, I think we got a pretty good taste of the town; from the higher end steak, to the local breakfast to the lower-end bar sections of the town......
. . . . . The first night we ate at the Los Arcos Steak and Lobster. While this place has a retro-Funky-Groove style atmosphere (think of the Jetsons), it does serve up some decent steak, at too-high prices. If you get there before 7pm, you can get the special at a decent price. I had the Sirloin, which was pretty darn good. However, bring some money, as the drinks can be a little spendy. The next morning we decided to scout out some locations and found the Bar-B-Que on Broadway restaurant. While the name may indicate Bar-B-Que, the breakfast is awesome. ![]() Continueing with the food, we finished up Saturday at the Bedroxx Bowling Alley. This Bowling Alley seems to have the Flinstones theme in mind. The bar had cave like walls, but...with some nice Blues tunes, and plenty of sports being played on the Flatscreen TVs. Of course we were all interested in the Motocross action. At the end of the bar was a couple of pool tables to complete the esemble. The bartender was quite nice in taking our orders and delivering the drinks......the Long-Island Ice-Tees are very good.. Of special note was the lack of cigeratte smoke in this bar. While there was some machine generated smoke in the bowling alley and disco lights, the bar seemed, for the most part, smoke free. I particulary enjoyed the Blues music, the great conversation and some excellent Motocross action on the Flatscreen TV. ![]() ![]() ![]() That's the food portion of the weekend, from my point of view. I've got more pictures, and video, related to the ride coming soon.
