Siesta Key
Flordia folks, I'm trying to plan a new destination for vacation for my family this summer, and want to know what you all think about the place. We have three kids, 9,7, and 18 months. Just curious as to things for a young family to do, places to stay, and places to eat. We'd like to stay on the beach, but any suggestions will be appreciated. Just for reference, my mother in law lived in Pensacola for several years, and that's where we took our summer vacations. How does SK compare?

Siesta key
I live 5 min from siesta key, its very nice. There are a lot of nice places to see and take the kids. I have friends that come stay there every year, they stay at the ( La Siesta ) You have mote marine lab, myakka state park ( air boat ride, canope walk, on siesta key there is not much to do for the kids except the beach. On the main land there is stuff to do.

Old Salty Dog looks like a good day ride destination.

Hey there. I am a police officer in Sarasota, which is the same county as Siesta Key. If you are looking for a beautiful beach, you are looking in the right place. Th beach has won best in the world many times over. You will be about 2.5 hours from Orlando, Disney, etc. Busch Gardens is fun, and that is in Tampa, so about 1 hour drive. It has great rides, and lots of animals.
Mote Marine is on Lido Key, and it is a neat aquarium, right across the street will be the old Salty Dog restaurant, which was on Man VS Food. Good food, amazing view. Munchies 420 cafe is close to Siesta, which was also on that show. Downtown Sarasota has lots of restaurants, as does Siesta Village. If you head south, Venice has beaches where sharks teeth can be found. I guess thats rare, I grew up there so it seems normal, but kids seem to enjoy looking for sharks teeth. Fishing is great around here if you like fishing. Summertime, the tarpon run up and down the beaches. You could hire a fishing guide who may put you on a 200lb tarpon for a unforgettable time. I am still trying to hook one from my kayak. Any questions, lmk. I may be able to answer them. |
