Cylinder base gaskets, R100

If you end up needing new base gaskets, I found the NOS ones today.
I actually happen to have 6.

Got the $75 cylinders, pistons and rods yesterday - they're fucking perfect If it wasn't for a snapped ring on one of the pistons I'd be putting this thing back together right now, though...

Next step will be to measure the wrist pin bore on the rods currently installed in the bike... for all I know they had to be hogged out and re-bushed for the Venolias. If that's the case, the "new" rods will take care of that.

So, a new set of rings for the stock setup, good to go. And at some point I'll order the .10-over rings for the Venolias, pack that kit up and stick it on the shelf in case I wanna build a hot rod later on. Not too shabby.

I paid more than twice that for fewer parts from the same guy. I forgot to lay on the sob story.

Good for you. So when will it be running?

Local big VW shop.

$24 for enough for four pistons. Perhaps I can send some up to you. That'll be $150.

I'd send some up to you if you'd like, but if you want immediate gratification, find your local VW shop. The part number is in that rings thread around here somewhere.

Thanks for posting that. My local guy is super helpful and can get the Goetze/Federal Mogul bits - problem is, Goetze/Federal Mogul part numbers are terribly difficult to research online, and the FM number he comes back with is 08-399100-00 as opposed to the 08-700900-00 quoted in the parts thread. I gave him the land measurements and he'll dig around. If his part number is correct I can pick them up tomorrow

Knary, the wristpins match here, so I've now got extra stock rods and some semi beat up valve covers left over if you know anybody who might be in need of cheap bits.

If you are going with stock pistons and cylinders, you don't need gaskets, the cylinders glue directly to the case.

Has anybody done leakdown testing after a decent number of miles (10,000-20,000+) on the VW ringset? I'm curious how the cast iron top rings hold up compared to the stock chrome top ring that BMW specs.

Yessir, headed in that direction now, but I'll have the bored jugs and Venolias set aside in case I get a bug up my butt to experiment.
