Vario Top case: Common for 650/800 twins and 1200 GS?
Folks,
is it true that a vario top case is the same for a F650/800gs twin and a 1200gs? Only the mounts differ? I'm trying to buy a vario top case for my 2009 F650gs twin and any help/guidance will be appreciated. here is the fleamarket thread. thanks in advance! http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...7#post18163087 |

Part fisch for both parts at below links.
The Vario for the twins sells new for $585. http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fic...6&rnd=03252011 On the 1200s, it sells for $675. http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fic...6&rnd=03252011 He's asking $525. Why not just got spend the extra $50 bucks and buy the brand new one that you will know fits your bike?

I can't verify fitment but the boxes don't look the same. I am comparing the pictures in the ad to my bike as I type. I gurantee you the rack and hardware will not work on your bike. The seller's asking price is fair. Probably less than 1/2 replacement cost. GH

Case differs only cosmetically.
F-twin is black plastic. RGS is metal-clad. |

Basically they are the same.
The VARIO for the Twins is all black and for R1200GS has the aluminum top. The mounting base is also different. You can fit the 1200 to any of the Twins as long as you have to proper base. That’s it! |

OEM Topcase Options
Since there is some debate here, and we all like pics....this post should end it!
Both of our bikes have had the 1200GS topcases installed. One is the 658 and the other an 800GS. Install the OEM topcase mount for your twin and either of the topcases will fit. The early 1200 topcases used to crack at the rear mount and often departed for a trip of their own. I bought 2 1200 topcases for $50 complete with road rash. I installed two bolts on the rear to permanantly fix them in place. So if you're buying the 1200 case, make sure you look at the rear latch area for cracks unless it is the later modded version. Don't have a pic of my crack ![]() ![]() You can also mix and match provided you install the proper mount.
