Congrats on the new bike Bruce!

Interesting features on the upcoming Spot 3, if you use SPOT often, the increase in battery life alone would probably pay for buying the new version.

First impressions of the TE511

Let's see..... fairly tall and narrow with a long board like seat. Motor sounds good and responsive when the throttle is twisted. Mirrors are ugly and so is the rear fender where the plate is mounted. I guess I will have to look into replacing those sometime in the future. The tires are a pretty aggressive knobby with the sound, feel, and high speed wobbles you would expect....probably won't last long as they are pretty soft. The wheels come with rim locks so I can drop the pressures for riding off road. Right now it doesn't have an ignition switch, remember this is basically a BMW G450, but it is an option and I made them throw that in on the deal and it should be here next week. It has one of those damn auto retracting side stands, I am going to leave it "as is" for the moment but it may get modded so it acts like a regular side stand. Not very impressed with the dash right now but maybe I just need to get used to it. Neutral is hard to find as well but I suspect that will get easier with mileage. I already adjusted the controls since they were very high up. Motor seems to make a lot of torque but that could be just due to the gearing, time will tell. I only put 10 miles on it tonight since I got stuck in a lot of traffic on the way home, so hopefully this weekend I will get some more miles on it.

I ordered up some different pegs for it today since I need a bit more foot support right now, that will most likely be the last farkle for a while since I have a lot of other stuff which needs attention. Feel free to ask questions.

Thanks for the heads up on the Spot 3 Eric. I was literally just about to upgrade from my Spot to the 2.

Speaking of SPOT, one of my friends just hard wired his to a 5v USB connector so that he could do away with the batteries:

J4S will wire his to his right turn signal...the left blinker is the engine kill

Seriously, I see the reason to want to do the hardline, but as safety equipment seems like you might want it to be a redundant system. However, one could argue that you might be out of batteries too.

I agree, although I would hope that he is powering it from a source that is always on. Regardless, I don't think I would do it, but it all depends on why one uses a SPOT.

Wrenching

Since for once I actually slept in, just a little bit, I am running a bit behind. So I probably won't start the teardown to around 11:00. Heading to town for a little breakfast and put a few miles on the new bike, I guess I should fill it up as well.
