New Year's Day Ride 2014

Started off the New Year right by getting out and riding...
Met up at WaWa in Dahlgren with riders showing up between 9 and 9:30...
Filled my KTM up with fuel, parked it over to the side and went in to grab some breakfast...
Came back out to find a rather large pool of gas under the bike, gas was pretty much flowing off the skid plate
Checked the fuel pump seal to see if that was the cause, nope, I just over filled the tank.
(yep, great way to start things off)

Right at 10, we rolled out with Blaster, Dorito, VACommuter, MotomanDan and geauXplor.
Winding our way though the back country roads, we rode mostly pavement but had a few sections of hard-pack dirt..
As a surprise bonus, I stopped and showed everyone a well maintained beaver dam and lodge...Mr. Beaver was apparently sleeping in from last night's festivities as he was no where to be seen.
We eventually made our way to Smokin' Joes BBQ in Kilmarnock...There we enjoyed a nice bit of Northen Neck BBQ and were joined by Joints4sale and biker128pedal.

Rolling out of Smokin' Joes fat and happy we continued the northern part of the loop back to Dahlgren.
(after I topped off the KTM's fuel tanks, figured with the bit I lost earlier, it would have been pretty embarrassing to run out of fuel on the ride I was leading after posting a reminder for others to come with full tanks)

biker128pedal stayed with us for almost an hour before he had to break off to get a few other things done for the day.

Arriving back at the WaWa in Dahlgren, I park off to the side to find the rest of the group left me...they had all made a bee-line straight to the pumps...

All in all a great ride. Weather was comfortable, great group of people and no injuries or breakage...Great way to start the new year

Agreed...great day for a ride and a few wheelies. BBQ was good so I will be going as part of the NN ferries ride this year. Thanks Dave!

Great riding with you guys. I thought I was running late. I missed the future ride planning. But had just enough time to grab a bowl of She Crab Soup at Savannah Joe's.

I was late because I had to put handles on these finger chimes.

Crummy indoor picture.

I had not been on a group ride for a couple of years. You guys go just the right speed. After I left I meandered down Rt 3 then found some nice back roads and one dirt road before heading to Kilmanock.

Did the shopping. That was what I was doing the entire afternoon.

See ya again in another 2 years.

Great riding with everyone. I got 326 miles in today, not a bad start to the year. I'm sure RFlagg did a few more today though.

Quite nice to finally meet you!

EOD3MC tried to inform me that he was "angelic" today. I guess my "angelic" wings must have been clipped. Had a few cagers to pass, and then tried to get poor 'ol VAcommuter kilt by pulling out infront of a car.

Let's go for another 1.5 years instead

Good day for a ride, chow and meeting up with the SMARs. Had a great time except when the giant bald eagle skaird me.

Glad to read about your ride. I was busy tucking in the toys with battery tenders and such so I could make room in the toy box to work on the car. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Did you guys go anywhere near Reedville and the Omega menhaden plant? There's a restaurant at the Fairport Marina that sells shirts that say, "Take your girl to Reedville and kiss her where it stinks".
