I'm in Capitol Hill w/off-street parking that could accommodate 8 or so bikes. The D6 bus is 1/2 a block away and stops about 1/2 mile from the convention center. Mi parking space, su parking space.

My other thought is that if the weather is dicey staying on the tarmac is the better choice.

How about a a little of both? We'll ride the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry and trot through Black Water?

Track is about 150 miles, and we'd need to work the out how to do lunch...as St Michaels is late in the track. Apparently Blk Water Park is a one-way street.

Found an article on the GS Trophy Challenge, dates are 6-14 Sept. This year they will ride on the F800GSs, and next year on R1200GSs.

The official website: is gstrophy.com

Some bad news on the qualifier:
Quote:
Vince Winkle at BMW Owner's News is asking BMW to let him run the article Tammela Rich wrote on this year's Trophy Challenge. Both Neale (photographer) and Tammela have been paid for our work, but BMW hasn't told either of us where else they plan to place it, despite several requests for this information

Erik....looks like he has gone into full manufacturing of the tool boxes.

http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=725825

I may have to see if one will fit the HP2, it will probably need some modifications but if it is like 98% there I may have to go for it.

Good day in the garage today...

First, Batteries Plus will never get my business again...
The battery on the KTM has been getting progressively weaker over the last few months, but the recent cold kicked the last bit of life out of it. Two days connected to the battery tender and the highest voltage reading was about 12.4 volts. If I tried to start the bike, it would turn over for about 5-10 seconds and the relays would drop out. Battery voltage would be under 12 volts.
I took the battery into Batteries Plus in F-burg since they carried a battery that fit the KTM that had pretty good reviews and was reasonably priced.
Asked the guy to test the battery to confirm what I was pretty sure I already knew...His reply after load testing - "battery is good right near 200 amps" Well, it's a 230 cca battery, it should be over 200 amps....
So we left and went to Autozone. Load tested the battery there..."Battery Bad" on the load test read out.
Went to Pep Boys. Load tested there..."Bad Battery" on their load test read out as well.

Went back to Batteries Plus (no one else carried the battery I needed). I gave the guy (same guy who tested it the first time) the battery history and results of the other load tests and ask him if he has the battery I was looking for. He wants to test the battery again, says he doesn't want to sell me a battery I might not need. Tests it again with two different load testers (His are electronic vise the traditional load testers used by the auto places) He still swears the battery is good. I tell him I would like the replacement battery anyhow....$95 He hands me the receipt and new battery. I ask for the old "good" battery...he starts to tell me he didn't charge me a $5.00 core charge...I asked him why would I leave a battery that you told me was good behind...so he says he'll hook me up and not charge me the core fee....

Get home and install the new battery...bike starts on first turn of the motor.

There are quite a few things I don't know (patience being one of them) but 20 years of keeping the lights on and boats running taught me at least a few things about batteries and wires.

Also saved a bunch of $$$
DRZ needs new steering head bearings. This will require new races installed and the lower bearing being pressed in place...their are some pretty expensive tools out there to accomplish this....

But this should press the races into place just fine...

12" 1/2 dia threaded rod, double washers and a couple nuts

and to get the lower bearing in place...a 2' long piece of PVC pipe exactly the same size as the bearing inner race

Batteries Plus is expensive. The last two YUSA battery I bought was on Amazon. Took less than a week. But one was for the Vstrom and the otber a tiny one for the XR250.

Too bad Walmart doesn't have it.

I have the same bearing press. Works on a bicycle too.

Dave....I don't have a cool tool like the first one but I do have a more generic race driver with different inserts that just beat the race in with a hammer if you end up needing it.

Thanks...gives me a plan "B" if needed...

So it's predicted to be near 50 degrees in the morning, but rainy.... temps expected to drop near freezing early evening.
Guess I won't be working late tomorrow
