Lobster Run

So starting to think about the constraints for the Lobster Run to frame the timetable.

We are thinking Sept.

Constraints:
1) The lobster boil probably needs to occur on Sun Afternoon
2) Location: Harrington, ME. The wharf that he fishes from is out at Ripley's point (not sure if it is on the map) but it is a right off of Rte 1 onto Marshville road almost to the end.
3) Conserve leave
4) It's 12 hours home from ME
5) Lobsters will need a straight ride home to curb dead loss
4) Check out from lighthouse is 1200

Schedule:
Thurs Depart early (Puppydog trail?)
Fri Finish trek and check into Lighthouse
Sat Checkout/Doodle around ME (Bar Harbor)
Pick up lobsters
Depart ME NLT 2200
Sun Arrive MD/noon
Sun early PM Lobster Boil

Motoman: Possible Oysters too
PhillyGal: Possible Crabs

Location? Firehall? Someone's house?

Thoughts or other constraints?

I'd plan on a min of 14 hours (probably longer given Hartford and NYC traffic, even in the middle of the night) from Bar Harbor to La Plata

"Death Threat"

Just got home from riding famed "Amish 100" loop around Southern MD. The cherry on it was I realized it went within a mile of my favorite tack shop! Anyhow, can home and had a piece of paper with a knife tacking it to the door (well maybe not that dramatic, it was really an email...but that's not how I imagined it!). The note reads as follows:

Quote:
[redacted] said he is going to stop by and remove the spark plugs from ALL your bikes.
Something tells me the next 10 days in ride challenge is going to spirited!

You've got to be kidding....why would someone even say something like that...I mean warning a person and all

I can't believe Bruce snitched on me... I only told him that so he wouldn't shoot my ass if he saw someone in the garage (Hell, I even thought I might get him to help )

Where: Starts at: Sheetz, 1300 E Patrick St, Fredrick, MD
What: 3 Covered Bridges, 3 Ice Creameries and a victory lap in Cactoctin Park
Length: Track is 104 miles. Less than 10% dirt. I suspect if we start at 1100, we should end around 17-1800

Info on Ice Creamery Here: http://marylandsbest.net/marylands-b...e-cream-trail/

Pace: I intend to stop and take some hap-snaps with the bike on each bridge. Additionally, I will sample each creamery. As an added bonus, I am hoping that we'll catch South Mountain Creamery Events:
  • Milking Time
    1:30 pm - 5:30 pm Daily
Watch cows being milked in our milking parlor!
  • Calf Feeding Time 4:00 Daily
Come help bottle feed baby calves!! Please note, each calf only gets one bottle - so come out a bit early to be sure you get a chance to help.

Notes: There is a few sections of dirt. I suspect them tame and less than a few miles total. They should be like dirt roads in Middleburg I intend to be riding street tires.

Chime in if you are interested in some Covered Cream

Negative, we are not doing the Morton's off road this year. But there are a few folks there (Motoman and Xuare) who should be able to give us the full report.

So we decide to do a little RTE last night, really just a simple evening logging some miles with a little chow thrown in. Then Dana chimes in and says "Hey, I have the route I put together that I never test rode", so we are off and running. Well in normal fashion the roads get worse to the point that we see the sign "end of county maintenance", now remember this is just supposed to be a relaxing evening RTE. So the road gets rougher with more holes, and holes filled with water and all I kept thinking was this is not what I signed up for this evening! Bottom line is we found a couple of nice dirt roads and one we didn't try because it was getting a bit overgrown, the sun was going down, and Dana had street tires on. So we will head back to try that one out when Cool Ranch is back online. One of the roads looked like it continued on as dirt and unmaintained for a bit longer but we turned off since we were just proving out the track, we will go back and run that one out to the end sometime soon. So other than me pulling over and puking my guts out on the side of the road, new one for me on a bike, it was a good evening of riding!!! Flip up helmets work really well for that.

Dave-O....this track was between Rappahannock(?) and Tappahannock(?), might have to check it out on the DRZ sometime.
