See, that's the problem. New(er) bikes usually have this godawful airbox chunk taking up vertical space on top of the engine. Old(er) bikes didn't, so they looked leaner, more lithe. I've seen two ways to go about this, one is to forgo the airbox and have K&N cones on the intake snorkels. The second is to re-route the intake up under the 'tank' and minimize the fuel capacity.

BTW, Hank, I'm still looking for the build thread. I think it was a Netherlands based builder trying to pull off the LoRider concept.

Yeah, I have noticed that (if you absolutely want me to be serious for a smidgen of time) and I actually think it would be both better and cheaper to take an air-boxer instead of ripping my whole bike apart, which, btw, is still 100% original and I have had it from new, so I don't think that me paying a pro to rip it apart and build it up again would be such a smart decision.

Regarding the build, yes, it's Nederland, you can see it on the Merc Sprinter in the background that says dot NL.

Sorry 'bout that. I'm an automotive designer, proportion is 90% of the visual equation.

I was at Intermot in 2010, and asked one of the BMW staff there about the Cruiser Concept / Lo Rider. He said that the bike was killed off by the financial crisis.

Henrik von Kuenheim, head of Motorrad, wants BMW to build a cruiser. I recall an interview when he discussed this, but ruled out a Boxer because the cylinder heads got in the way of forward controls. For some reason, aficionados of these bikes view this as being important.

What was really interesting about the concept was that it was intended to be highly configurable. The PR materials spoke of being able to pick seat units and tanks to create a unique machine.

Perhaps it'll still happen. The Diavel has shown you can build a cruiser that isn't a Harley clone or variant and be successful, so that might have opened a few doors.

That is interesting-the modularity of the concept. I heard a hint (mind you only a hint) that the WasserBoxer may re-ignite the LoRider in another incarnation.

Love to see it happen, to be honest. BMW needs to do something akin to the Ducati Monster approach.
