News from Brett Cummings & Glen Grundy from Lima:
"Landed at 9pm Lima time last night after a 17 hr travel via Sau Paulo. Arrived to find the race mechanics doing the final preparations for technical inspections that were supposed to take place at 11 but team manager went and arranged to do them at 3pm. Bikes are now prepared and ready to go and the excitement is really building now.
Also just found out that we have a normal backup truck that follows the service crew route as well as a backup truck that is in the race following us. That is a huge bonus!!!"

Sorry if this is 205. Saw this on my Youtube feed, an interview with Cyril. In it he is quite humble. I was shocked. It seems to me that in past interviews that I have seen with him, he is one of the most self centered, egotistical assholes on the planet, and now this comes out.

Heavily edited to make him look better maybe?

I think Cyril has gotten a bad rap and stage 8 didn't help last year. I am a fan. I see a good racer that understands the importance of the 'image' side of things and that is a valuable asset to have in order to maintain a long career. Perhaps my opinion stems from a similar video some years back that I can no longer find. It was of him doing some training around his house and then some messing around on a quad in his driveway, but I recall a down to earth guy that happens to have a great job.

Perhaps it was the Dakar Legends (episode 1) where he was interviewed as well as Peterhansel. These were aired when the 2008 event was cancelled. (Which I was at...) Great interview and showed a humbler side of him.
I think very focused individuals such as Despres sometimes come across as being egotistical...
That said, I have to say I was disappointed in stage 8. The event has certainly changed (in certain ways) from its early days.
Money does funny things...

Is Annie Seel racing this year? I read a blurb that she was switching to a car but I don't see her name on the list.
